Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

these unemployment figures in here are a shocker, but I believe they're closer to the mark than what we've been told as I know about 5 unemployed professional people ( who've never been out of work before)  they would not be registered as unemployed because they have assets and don't ask for any assistance

However, what should be of the greatest concern to the Abbott Government as it faces re-election in the next 12 months is Australia’s ‘army’ of unemployed and under-employed. Last week’s Roy Morgan August unemployment (9.2% - 1.18 million) and under-employment (7.4% - 944,000) estimates show there are still more than 2.11 million Australians (16.6%) looking for a job or looking for a new job. This figure remains far too high and is the biggest challenge facing the Government as it deals with the end of the mining boom and the imminent closure of the Australian car manufacturing industry over the next two years.

Talk about twisting of words, Gareth.

Let's cut the ****. Refugees may be accepted by Australia through the UNHCR and are transferred to Australia from refugee camps in other countries (such as Kenya and Ethiopia). Refugees who arrive in Australia and are accepted as such are also RESETTLED. Resettled means they are accepted into Australia as permanent residents under Australia's humanitarian intake, which is currently set at 13,750 per year.

Any other immigrant under any other program must wait a minimum of two years to receive permanent resident status. Permanent resident status means access to education, housing, welfare, work rights, permission to buy land, start a business, etc. After another two years as a permanent resident, an immigrant can apply for citizenship and the right to vote or even run for office.

HOSTED refugees, such as the hundreds of thousands in Greece, Italy, Germany, Lebanon, Turkey, Kenya, etc. have NONE of those rights. The refugee camps are run by non-government agencies such as the UNHCR, Red Cross, etc. who feed them, house them in tents, and provide health and education programs. These refugee camps where refugees are HOSTED mostly receive zero assistance from the countries in which those refugee camps exist.

Australia's humanitarian intake of 13,750 for resettlement and residency is the highest per capita in the world. Canada is a close second. The PM is correct.

"You have "deleted" an important qualification within what Hockey actually said, an inconvenient fact?

pardon??   I have not deleted anything

http://www.news.com.au/national/joe-hockey-pledges-coalition-will-deliver-first-year-budget-surplus/...

True, I should have just written a simple "overlooked", but thought that writing "deleted" would have sufficed

Within your link will be found

But Mr Hockey says he hasn't abandoned a pledge made last year to deliver a surplus in the coalition government's first year.

"Our commitment is emphatic," he told ABC radio this morning.

"Based on the numbers published today we will deliver a surplus in our first year and every year after that."

The last line is actually what he said, note the quotation marks !

The Coalition was forced to use an outside panel to cost its 2013 election promises because of a provision inserted in the Parliamentary Budget Office Act by Labor that prevents the office from costing policies confidentially once an election has been called.

It means that Labor will face a similar problem in this election as will any accountant who works for it.

that's what I call good govt.  well done to the Labor party for attempting to make these things more transparent

Codswallop, it was a cynical move to have a provision added to the The Charter of Budget Honesty,      brought in by the Howard/Costello government 15 years ago,     in order that the government would have full access to the opposition's  Treasury and Finance costings  because "The opposition can ask Treasury and Finance to cost its policies but only once a campaign has started, only through the Prime Minister's office and not in confidence."

"good govt" ??

I suggest you read the CBH legislation,  and also  THIS SMH ARTICLE titled

The Age 2011 (not the DT)
Budget office loaded against opposition.....Never underestimate the ability of Labor to damage itself.
