As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

on 30-12-2015 07:35 PM
Utterly disgraceful of Dyson Heydon to come out with a statement that the findings of the RC represent "the tip of the iceberg". That's neither a finding nor a fact - it's an opinion.

if Italy can do this why can't we??
Apple has agreed to pay Italian authorities 318 million euros ($476 million) to settle a tax dispute after the US tech giant was accused of dodging payments.
The company's Italian subsidiary and several of its senior executives had been under investigation for fraud over the alleged failure to comply with obligations to declare its earnings in Italy between 2008 and 2013.

Makes you wonder why Apple products are so expensive, Deb, given how little tax they appear to pay worldwide. And yes, we ought to be following Italy's example.

well I thought we'd be hearing more about Jamie Briggs, on the one hand we have Howard govt spin doctor and (so-called) editor from the Australian (Chris Kenny) writing stories about poor innocent Jamie Briggs
Malcolm Turnbull has forced South Australian minister Jamie Briggs to resign in a silly and unfair m..., inflaming internal friction and raising standards of ministerial accountability to ridiculous levels.
then on the other hand we have Samantha Maiden political editor for newscorpse, spilling the beans
DISGRACED junior minister Jamie Briggs has confirmed he personally forwarded a photograph identifying the female public servant who lodged a confidential complaint about his behaviour
FREQUENT flyer Jamie Briggs repeatedly flouted Tony Abbott’s edict to ban ministers from flying first class and accepted crates of freebie booze during his parliamentary career.
Last week Briggs said he didn’t want to name the woman because he was protecting her privacy.
Today, we learn a photograph of the woman that ended up on the front page of a newspaper was taken on his mobile

OMG can this get any more farcical?
PETER Dutton, the minister who once resigned from the frontbench via SMS, yesterday labelled a female journalist a “mad f ... king witch” in a text — and then sent it to the journalist instead of the colleague it was intended for.
The Immigration Minister last night outed himself as the MP who had sent the blistering text about Sunday Telegraph political editor Samantha Maiden after reading her coverage of the Jamie Briggs affair.
The text message ended a horror week for the government after Mr Briggs was forced to resign from the frontbench for allegedly trying to kiss a junior public servant during a boozy night in a Hong Kong bar while on official ministerial business. The text was supposed to be sent to Mr Briggs after Maiden’s story outing the dumped minister for sending photos of the public servant he had taken on his phone, to colleagues.
Mr Dutton, who immediately apologised to Maiden after he realised he had sent the message to her, outed himself in a bid to avoid other colleagues being listed as suspects after Maiden refused to reveal the author of the text.
The minister, successful in protecting Australian borders, said he would cop the incident on the chin.
“I apologised to her straight away, which she took in good faith,’’ he said. “Sam and I have exchanged some robust language over the years so we had a laugh after this. I’m expecting a tough time in her next column.”

A Somali asylum seeker allegedly raped on Nauru had not ruled out terminating her pregnancy, documents obtained under Freedom of Information laws have revealed.
Key points Abyan sent to Australia for abortion in October, returned to Nauru five days later Dutton said Abyan decided not to proceed, but FOI documents say she did not change her mind
Border Force minute says there is a "risk that once in Australia [Abyan] will seek to join legal action which would prevent her return [to Nauru]"
In October, the 23-year-old woman, known as Abyan, was transferred to Australia for an abortion, an illegal procedure on Nauru, after the Federal Government's healthcare provider advised senior departmental staff "there are risks of deteriorating mental health and psychological distress".
But five days later, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton publicly stated Abyan decided not to proceed with the abortion and she was sent back to Nauru, still pregnant.
Mr Dutton also accused refugee advocates of lying about the situation.
Correspondence between senior staff at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has now revealed why Abyan was removed from Australia.
