As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

in light of the panama papers and all the other corruptiuon that we know is going on. ( such as secret donation schemes) you have to wonder why this govt is only interested in union corruption, I'm all for a DD, but it just might backfire against the sitting govt. the word is they will lose about 10 seats at this stage and may well end up with a hung parliament. some of the independant cross benchers are likely to be voted back in. such as Glen lazarus, Jackie Lambie and Ricky Muir
it's about time politicians stopped playing political games with each other and started running the country.. still waiting for that 'good govt' we were promised

Remember the unpaid HECS debts supposedly owed bu university graduates who either do not work or left the country? Well, apparently most of the debt is owed by people who enrolled for short courses ($20K - $50K) in those private colleges who took anybody regardless of their ability to make it through the course, and gave them a computer. Their drop out rate is 80% and they do not care because the college already has the money, and the people who drop out, often long term unemployed and/or disabled, end up just as unemployable as they were before only now they have HECS debt, which they will never pay. That is how we have lost billions. These corrupt colleges together with also corrupt employment agencies are enormous drain on the tax dollars.
YES, we need commission into ALL corruption especially tax dodging, and we will have enough money for education and health. No need for new taxes.

those private colleges also receive funding from the Fed govt don't they??
I'll never understand why they are happy to waste tax payers money on those (some have proven to be very shonky indeed, taking fees from students then closing down leaving everyone in the lurch)
I would much rather that fed funding went to public schools
on 07-04-2016 01:30 PM
I am not sure if they receive direct funding, but if they get something like $40K from fees for each student, that is lot of money, especially if they do not really teach anything, and then print out useless pieces of paper for the 20% who stick around for the duration.
There should be no private education, if all kids would be educated in the same schools the politicians and wealthy would make sure that all schools have good funding.
I think it is laughable when the people who send their kids to private schools say that money and class sizes do not affect educational outcomes. So, if that is the case, WHY on earth do they pay small fortune for private schools? LOL

Barnaby Joyce defends helicopter ride from Armidale to Drake, saying it is not another 'Choppergate
"All members of an electorate the size of New England, we have access to travel entitlement, we can use it as we see fit," Mr Joyce said.
The federal politicians using taxpayer-funded perks to pay off their mortgage
As many as one in five federal politicians are using their travel allowances to supplement the cost of second homes in Canberra.
Politicians are entitled to claim $273 a night when they travel to Canberra for Parliament or other business and many keep second residences in close proximity to Parliament House.
Representatives for ministers including Finance Minister Mathias Cormann, Social Services Minister Christian Porter, Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion and Assistant Defence Minister Michael McCormack confirmed they stay in houses or apartments they own and claim the travel allowance when in Canberra, which can work out at a minimum of $1000 a week or $18,000 a year.
someone should tell these people that the age of entitlement is over

yep, they paid it off using tax payer funded travel allowances
Joe Hockey's self-made millionaire wife Melissa Babbage bought the heritage-listed 1930s Canberra home for a song in 1997 and then charged her husband and his Liberal mates to stay there in parliamentary sitting weeks.
