As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Excellent article on the property bust going on in China right now:
.....http://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2014/08/casualities-pile-up-in-chinese-property-bust/
and as the commentators following so succinctly point out:
I wonder if this is the source of at least some of the money that is apparently being laundered through the Australian property market?
and
Millions of dirt cheap dwellings for sale in China and yet the yuan continues to pour into grossly overpriced Australian houses. Why?
and ...err.....what's our Fed Govt doing about all this??
.....supervising ?.....and oh yes!!.....counting their personal funds *oops! nearly forgot that, silly moi

Now putting aside any de facto xenophobia, and addressing some facts (sorry) we find:-
AFR 18 Aug 2014
"China’s property market is going through its worst slump on record and may not stabilise until early next year, triggering concerns declining home sales could undermine the broader economy."
"Home prices fell in 64 of the 70 surveyed cities in July from a month earlier, according to data on Monday from the National Bureau of Statistics. It was the third straight month of declines and leaves home prices up an anaemic 2.5 per cent over the year, according to calculations made by Reuters based on the official statistics."
I wonder what this means : "home prices up an anaemic 2.5 per cent over the year"? not exactly a bust!~
Still, China’s biggest residential property developer Vanke is keeping the faith. After reporting over the weekend a small drop in first-half revenue and a modest increase in profits, Vanke said in a statement that in the long term “China’s urbanisation still has a long way to go”
"any move to open the doors to more investment from China seems destined to drive an outbreak of public concern, based more on Chinese whispers than on fact. There is a "misunderstanding of what Australian Bureau of Statistics and FIRB statistics actually represent and the lack of statistics that specifically report incoming new foreign investment into Australia."
They may be right (?) but does this shoe fit? : " most Australians who complain about foreign housing investors. Though many Aussies may form this view based on hearsay and/or a lack of researched opinion......"
Finally "please explain" 007 why is it that the "Chinese" only seem to "worry" you when the residential investment of just Canada and the US total 50% more than the your apparent xenophobically driven concerns apropos the 3% foreign residential property investment by the Chinese?
on 25-08-2014 02:06 PM
only 3%?? I'd say where that where I live the figure would be a lot higher than 3% where does that figure come from MM? & is that bricks and mortar or energy, mining, infrastructure investment?
there are lots of interesting articles, this is a recent one

some more on the media empire's circulation. this one is more current. I wonder how much of this goes on around the world?
The Sun has marked the World Cup by giving away 22million papers to English homes, unfortunately for Rupert Murdoch, some people really do not want his paper – even for free. And now it could face an investigation resulting in fines of over a billion pounds.
The 24-page tabloid is being delivered over the next two days, courtesy of Royal Mail, as "an unapologetic celebration of England."
But the paper, which remains controversial over its coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy, has been unceremoniously rejected by many homeowners and could have even fallen foul of the law.

Liberals Complain That The Facts Are Showing A Distinct Bias Against Them!
Excerpt (spoof)
Interviewer: So just because you got elected then the crisis is over?
Jockey: Well, it is for us. Look, when Labor left office they left a debt of $283 billion. What’s the debt now?
Interviewer: I don’t know.
Jockey: No, that’s not right. The answer is: Who cares?
Interviewer: But surely people will be upset when you tell them this…
Jockey: Oh, I don’t intend to tell them.
Interviewer: What about this interview?
Jockey: Gee, do you think people will find out?
Interviewer: Of course they will – just like your New Zealand comments, it’ll go straight on the Internet!
Jockey: Bugger! Opposition was so much easier. I just can’t get used to anyone actually paying attention to anything I say.
Interviewer: If it’s any consolation, nobody takes you seriously.
Jockey: Are you from the ABC? That sounded like bias to me. Alan Jones never treats me like this.
Interviewer: That’s all we’ve got time for!
Jockey: You’ll have even less time once I’ve cut your funds. Hey don’t publish that bit. Come on, that was off the record…
