As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

facts prove that all the stories about people going to the Dr for no reason and clogging up the system have been proven to be just that - stories. Same with the so called 6 minute medicine, the numbers don't add up, it's another "story" used by those intent on destroying Medicare which is one of the best most efficient health systems in the world.

Has our own ratio of young ppl people entering the medical profession ie, nurses, doctors, declined, or has the ratio of sick people inclined?
This has been extensively covered in the news for years.
There are not enough Australian educated people qualified to be doctors in Australia. Some choose not to become GP's. Australian GP's don't want to work in Regional areas - remoteness, no other Dr's available for relief.
If there were no foreign Drs working in Aust, our town would have a couple of nearly retired Aust educated Dr's ( which does not meet the demand) instead if the 10 or more we have currently.
The school leavers grade required to gain entry to Uni is very high - 99.9% grade at sone uni's. Perhaps there aren't enough smart Australians or students who work hard enough to get that high grade required? A lot that do get that grade at school are other nationalities.

Australia actively recruits nurses from other counties too. And police officers.
People should be happy these 'foreigners' are willing to come to this country to kessen the shortfall in ceratin careers.
icy - an ageing population would require more medical services. Retired people tend to live in /move to smaller towns/regional areas. Most of the people moving to my town are wealthy retirees from Sydney. Medical Centre full of them.

I was starting to worry, no BIG C&P image with some "independent" comments tacked on.
Perhaps the Sandpit could blame Abbott/malodorous Govt for this:
If some do not understand it (and ramifications) return to blaming Abbott for all and everything!
And the obligatory BIG image sans attached blurb:

have I left any out? foreigners too??
I have noticed that some foreigners seem to be desperately unhappy, bile flowing at every opportunity, ill actually. They might be happier if they went back to their old countries.

Medicare’s growth isn’t out of control – It’s actually slowing
GDP growth is slowing…
Tax revenue growth is slowing…
Health expenditure growth is slowing…
And Medicare growth is slowing…
Summary? Growth is slowing for all the measures.
Conclusion
Yes, Medicare is still growing each year, just as our GDP and tax revenue are. But that growth is slowing down.
Hardly the “rapid and unsustainable rate” our Health Minister is spruiking!
Our government has a habit of completely disregarding the truth.
And our media tends not to correct them.
