As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Federal budget 2015: A budget that will restore political fortunes but at a cost
This is the budget of a badly rattled government that has put self-preservation ahead of economic responsibility. It will do much to restore Tony Abbott's political fortunes, but next to nothing to return the budget to surplus or hasten the economy's return to strong growth.
Don't be misled by all the happy talk of an improving economy and all the jobs to be created
What it's not is "dull". Turns out, when Abbott promised a dull budget what he meant was one that was the opposite of last year's.
.....Don't be misled by all the happy talk of an improving economy and all the jobs to be created. We can always hope, but there is little reason to believe the budget will do much to improve business confidence. From the perspective of economic management, this budget represents dereliction of duty.
And there's one respect in which nothing has changed: the tax perks of the well-off - superannuation concessions, negative gearing, discounted tax on capital gains, family trusts - remain untouched.

No shocks, but little substance from Hockey
This years budget is a little more than a long, grovelling apology for last year's stuff up.

Where is the spending restraint?
Peter Van Onselen
While there are some good policy initiatives it is what’s not in it that makes it a poor second budget for the Treasurer.

I thought everything Alan Kohler said was right on the ball , it was talking down the economy last year that has destroyed confidence.
I liked the small business being able to purchase equipment up to $20.000 and claim it back 100% but how many small businesses have the cash to do tha now.. will they borrow?? It is a Labor stimulus package
I know that my BIL has had to put off 11 of his 40 staff, for the first time in 25 years

Just a year ago, the Treasurer railed about the profligacy of his Labor predecessors and the desperate need to rein in spending. Now, his high-risk stimulus strategy looks like the one Wayne Swan used during the GFC, writes Ian Verrender

I know that my BIL has had to put off 11 of his 40 staff, for the first time in 25 years. That's the reality, sadly.
Confined to businesses with annual turnover of less than $2m and not incorporated. I don't know why the Govt think that is going to boost the economy.. a small business isn't likely to double their small staff numbers, just because of these new measures.
Yes, can't see small businesses having the spare cash to continually go out buying items for (up to) $20,000.
There is also the risk of small business owners buying things that aren't actually used in their business and claiming on them.

Here's another one.
Federal budget 2015: Joe Hockey takes his budget tips from Wayne Swan
Joe Hockey is turning into Wayne Swan and then some.
Whereas Swan allowed small businesses to write off spending on equipment up to $6500, Hockey is allowing them to instantly write off spending up to $20,000. And to do it again and again. There's no limit on the number of times small businesses can get the Tax Office to fund a big chunk of $20,000 right through until July 2017.
