Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

also your graph is old, that poll was conducted on Jan 7 2014

what i posted were the current poll numbers as they were last night... both would've increased in number by now

Sorry, not poll numbers, they are current petitions.

An online petition is hardly (NOT) an accurate reflection of community attitudes, and as a "keen" trawler of  suitable OS articles you might (?) have ascertained that the UK attitude to immigration has, over the years, been decidely negative and is not likely to suddenly reverse.  Do you remember the "Rivers of Blood "speech, or is that dismissed because it was in 2007? (memories of Pauline Hanson !)

.

Economist/Ipsos MORI August 2015 Issues Index The highest level of concern about immigration Ipsos MORI has ever recorded

Published:21 August 2015

The August Economist Ipsos MORI issues index shows that half (50%) the public mention immigration as among the most important issues facing Britain. For a third (32%) it is the single most important issue facing the country. This measurement of 50% is an increase of 8 percentage points since July, and this represents the highest level of concern we have ever recorded about immigration – surpassing the 46% recorded in December 2007, as the migrant camps in Calais continue to dominate sections of the media. It is also the highest score we have recorded for any issue in over two years, since 51% mentioned the economy in July 2013.

“We have never seen concern about immigration this high, and when one single issue reaches 50% it tends to signify that the public perceive that is something which needs to be addressed urgently. We await to see whether this 50% figure becomes a high water mark, or if consistent media attention specifically focused on Calais pushes concern beyond this level in months to come.”

'No difference' in immigration attitudes, politicians claim

The poll suggested that 64% of people in Scotland wanted immigration reduced or stopped completely. The figure for Britain as a whole was 70%.

We could have a petition right here.   (LOL)

I wonder if the British concern for immigration is race based? 🙂

Speaking of numbers, Tony Abbott last Friday claimed that Australia takes in more refugees than any other country, per head of population.

This must be news to Lebanon, population 4.3 million, who have accepted more than 1.1 million refugees to date. Once again, Tony's just making stuff up.

no. he did not say that.

he said australia resettles more refugees

than most countries.  which is true.

even though these figures are from 2012,

australia still ranks second in the world.

I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition. Try these on for size:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/latest-news/abbott-urged-to-do-more-for-refugees/story-fn3dxiwe...

Mr Abbott stressed the fact Australia already took the most refugees per capita of any country

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-opinion/fact-and-fiction-with-prime-minister-tony-a...

He says Australia is already doing a lot when it comes to accepting asylum seekers, and that "we take more refugees than any other through the UNHCR on a per capita basis."

But is that statement correct? No.

According to the Refugee Council of Australia, Australia is not the world's most generous country when it comes to accepting refugees. It does not even rank in the top 20 countries.

He probably included all the detainees in our concentration camps which are conveniently located off shore.
