As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

"It revealed that if all of the Galilee Basin’s coal was burned it’s estimated that 705 million tonnes of carbon dioxide would be released each year" what ?
"each year" ? For how many years?. For ever? All the coal?
It would appear that the Climate Council lack a proof reader/researcher !
Basin coal reserves =27,750 million tonnes, calculated CO2 emissions would last over 100 years if that (from where?) 705 million tonnes pa is used.
Now facts and being practical.
Hunter Valley unemployment is around 12%
Coal consumption is increasing annually over 2% according to the IEA (2014).
If we stopped mining any of our coal, annual world consumption would not change at all. There is plenty world wide and it would be sourced elsewhere.
2014
Global coal demand growth has been slowing in recent years, and the report sees that trend continuing. Coal demand will grow at an average rate of 2.1% per year through 2019
“We have heard many pledges and policies aimed at mitigating climate change, but over the next five years they will mostly fail to arrest the growth in coal demand,” IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven said.
I think the Chinese slow-down will reduce the annual growth, but what purpose would be served if the Galilee's coal was not mined and OS producers benefited?

There was little, if any, progress made in the jobs market today.
Official data released from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the unemployment rate steady at 6.2 per cent.
Overall the number of people employed decreased by 5,100 in September.
Around 13,900 full-time jobs were lost, while close to 9,000 part-time jobs were created.
The largest decrease was in male full-time employment, down 11,000.
Before the 2013 federal election former prime minister, Tony Abbott, pledged to create new jobs.
"We will deliver a million new jobs over five years, two million new jobs over a decade," Mr Abbott said.

"Before the 2013 federal election former prime minister, Tony Abbott, pledged to create new jobs."
Before the 201O federal election Poor Me pledged “There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead”
Gosh they both do it !
Well actually one was deliberately broken in order to maintain power, the other was a political boast open to the whims of political and economic reality.

He really said that, I was shocked that the ABC let that go to air. It's a saying that offended me deeply and it was so shocking that it came out of his mouth to a female interviewer.
