Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Wow! That story on ABC news tonight about Kathy Jackson. The claim against her that she misappropriated $1.4 million dollars & the union wants it back. According to her lawyer, she is in hospital, too ill to counsel her lawyers but has lodged a claim for workcover compensation.

He told BBC host Stephen Sackur that Europeans had a "fundamental misunderstanding" of Australia's economic ties with Asia, particularly China, and the view that Australia had a "massive reliance and dependence" on China for exports was a "complete misread".

so I thought I would check on who our biggest markets are for exports, the top 10 include 7 from Asia and China almost doubles that of number 2, certainly someone is having a "misread" - hockey is such a prat. The list won't c&p properly so the list of countries follow the table.

Hockey again (UK)

'Absolutely ridiculous': Joe Hockey denies Australia is dirtiest greenhouse gas emitter in OECD

Treasurer Joe Hockey has denied that Australia is the highest greenhouse gas emitting country in the OECD per capita, telling a British journalist the statement is "absolutely ridiculous.

........He also laughed at the suggestion that Australia was "one of the dirtiest most greenhouse gas-emitting countries in OECD group of developed countries".

"The comment you just made is absolutely ridiculous," Mr Hockey told Sackur.

"We've got a small population and very large land mass and we are an exporter of energy, so that measurement is a falsehood in a sense because it does not properly reflect exactly what our economy is," Mr Hockey said.

"Australia is a significant exporter of energy and, in fact, when it comes to coal we produce some of the cleanest coal, if that term can be used, the cleanest coal in the world."

His comments contradict the Garnaut Climate Change Review, which says Australia was the highest per capita emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the OECD, even without exports of energy.

"Australia's per capita greenhouse gas emissions are the highest of any OECD country and are among the highest in the world," the review says.

"Australia's per capita emissions are nearly twice the OECD average and more than four times the world average."

I read that, I can't get my head around QLDs politics, they say that the LNP will win the next election but whenever I read comments from the Brisbane Times they are generally 10 to 1 against the LNP. For QLDs sake and the rest of Australia I hope they are thrown out - there is too much natural beauty at stake to leave it in the hands of the environmental vandals - not to mention the people that live there.

Health Services Union (HSU) figure Kathy Jackson is too mentally unwell to defend herself against claims she misappropriated union funds, the Federal Court in Melbourne has heard.

The HSU is pursuing Ms Jackson for almost $1.4 million for allegedly misusing the funds of members.

John Hewson has lashed senior government figures, including Treasurer Joe Hockey and Education Minister Christopher Pyne, for attempting to "bully and coerce" the Australian National University into reversing its decision to dump investments in fossil fuel companies.

The former Liberal Party leader and former Liberal prime minister Malcolm Fraser are among more than 50 prominent Australians and ethical investors who have signed an open letter urging the Abbott government to call off its crusade against ANU.

Mr Hewson also demanded members of the government reveal who had urged them to take a public stance against ANU's decision to divest its shareholdings in seven Australian resources companies, including Santos, Oil Search and Iluka Resources.

Forty of Australia's biggest companies will be asked to explain their tax affairs to a Senate committee investigating corporate tax avoidance.

Companies shown, in a recent report, to have the lowest "effective tax rate" over the past decade and to operate the most subsidiaries in tax havens have been given the chance to outline their tax strategies before the committee decides which corporate leaders to call in to appear before public hearings.

this seems to be a good move from senate
