As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Thousands of Centrelink and Medicare staff have signed a petition protesting against a proposal to outsource call centre work to Telstra.
About 6,500 Department of Human Services (DHS) staff signed the petition, calling on the federal department to not proceed with the Telstra outsourcing proposal.

Trade Minister Andrew Robb has outed himself as a supporter of expanding the GST in what could be the first clear sign of a coordinated campaign underway within the Abbott government to tackle the thorny issue.
Mr Robb has told the Australian Financial Review the goods and services tax should be extended to products like fresh food and education, but stressed the government did not have plans to change the tax before the next federal election, which is due in 2016.
2016? OK it might not happen then

Andrew Robb has been feathering his own nest for many years, I knew him in his younger days and he was at it then. Nothing has changed.

You encapsulate in nicely G58 ".........Most people care to have a society that offers ........". offers? translation: gimme gimme.
You might possibly remember the expression "hip-pocket nerve" it is part of our lexicon, and refers to a good proportion of the electorate who are "seduced" by politicians come election time with many and varied Offers. That actually makes the "majority" "greedy"!
I quote from an Aug 2013 SMH:
Greed of an ignorant electorate fed by power-hungry politicians
"......our politician-fuelled combination of lotus land ignorance and greed bodes ill. We have never had it so good, but we want even more despite our expectations being unmatched by a willingness or capacity to pay for them......"
Sound familiar?
G58, you (and many more) may well expect society to offer you a decent standard of living, myself I would expect (and have ) worked for mine.
What a lot of garbage you have twisted my words into .
Nope. Offers does not translate to gimme gimme.

Yes Deb. You can't work hard and attain a decent lifestyle if your society doesn't offer the possibility of a good lifestyle.
