Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Govt to close Darwin detention centre

Another immigration detention centre will close because of successes in stopping the influx of asylum seeker boats, the government says.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the Bladin Alternative Place of Detention in Darwin will close on April 7.

Mr Dutton said Bladin was opened by the former Labor government in June 2013 to cope large numbers of boat arrivals.

'The immigration detention network ballooned under the Labor Government and came at a significant cost. The closure of Bladin means that taxpayers save more than $18 million a year in lease costs alone,' he said in a statement.

Mr Dutton said centre was the 11th detention facility the government had closed in just over a year, due to its success in halting illegal boat arrivals.

Those now in Bladin will be transferred to other sites or, if eligible, moved into the community or released on bridging visas.

Mr Dutton said the immigration department will continue to liaise with stakeholders and local suppliers who have had business arrangements with the Bladin facility.

Your whole summary of the Abbott/Iraq soldiers/ The Australian article is inaccurate. You missed the finer points in the article and the journalist who wrote it and The Australians reply. The Australian stands by the accuracy of that comment.

Its yesterdays news now - wait and see what The Australian is going to come out with tommorrow.

Yes, it was.

The story in the Australian reported it as a conversation, an idea that abbott was chatting about to those in the inner circle.  It was not suggested that he officially approached the military with the idea.  Nor was it suggested that the chief of defence was present.

The story was told as being another of abbott's daft ideas that he needed to be talked out of before there was any chance of it being put on the record.

Yes - a very daft idea. That surprisingly even Credlin didn't squash immediately.

Lots of other points in that article as well that shows the dysfunction in the Abbott/co PM Crediln Govt.

Sky News? I would take The Australian over that!

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and NSW Premier Mike Baird released a joint report on the Lindt cafe siege.

Prime Minister is right there needs to be some major changes, Monis didn’t just slip through the system, he created a crack the size of a major earth quake and laughed in our face. How on earth was he allowed out on bail yet alone be allowed in our country and have us keep him.

While the media focus on a new smear story on our Prime Minister I’m very grateful that we now have a Prime Minister who is actually trying to look after us.

The National Security Hotline received 18 calls in relation to Monis between 9 December 2014 and 12 December 2014. All of these 18 calls were complaints about the offensive nature of the content of Monis’s public Facebook page. None of the calls related to any intentions or statements regarding a pending attack – imminent or otherwise.

Importantly, these Hotline reports were all considered by ASIO, AFP and, when deemed relevant to NSW, the NSW Police Force, prior to the siege. All three agencies considered the Facebook posts contained no indications of an imminent threat. The postings were not assessed to meet the threshold for prosecution under new ‘advocacy of terrorism’ legislation.

Am I wrong or has all he's denied is having a "formal" discussion with the dept. of defence?

Looking forward to some more party room leaks next week 🙂

Yes, that is all he denied - formally putting the idea forward. The article never accused him of doing that though.

Monday for some more party room leaks....

Icy - did you read the whole 78 page document you linked to? Martin Place Siege review.

No, thanks. I don't want a sledging bully looking out for me.   He's a dangerous nutjob that is more likely to increase the level of danger facing Australia.  He's had to be talked out of 2 invasions in a year.    Keating and Fraser are right, he's a very dangerous politician.

I nearly choked reading the first line of the above post.

Instead of actually trying to look after us, he is actually  only looking out for himself and stuffing up the lives of Australians.

The one BIG problem with Julian's statement is that Labor and the Greens DIDN'T HAVE A CONSCIENCE

when it came to the drownings.

They were a necessary means to an end.

What you might call "acceptable collateral damage".
