I was still half asleep this morning when my radio came on, and I am sure they said that the new LNP plan to stop the boats is to finance buy back scheme in Indonesia to buy their old decrepit boats from the poor fishermen. I could not believe they could be so stupid, but apparently they could:

Indonesians will become boat builders - lucrative 🙂
The boats will not have to be seaworthy; that means any old wreck rotting on the beach will do. And what will they then do with those boats? How will they make sure the boats will be then destroyed and not sold again and again and again to them? That would require many Australian personel on the ground, and as the LNP has not run that proposal by the Indonesians first, I can see Jakarta being rather unimpressed.

the Indonesians would vote in favour of this policy

And people intend to vote for this dill and his cohorts.
God help Australia.

How will they be able to go fishing without their boats?

I received a letter today from the hospital stating that as from October all cataract surgery has been cancelled and moved to a Hospital a long distance away. I am not allowed to drive because of the surgery and my OH cannot drive the distance. I have no idean how we are supposed to get there and back.
A little bit of concern for local issues would be a good thinig from both parties.
Not sure where you are but there is a community scheme with drivers who can do that for you, for a small fee. Check with your local community Health.
You are right, Az, there are various schemes which can help. I know a disabled woman who sometimes is driven to appointments in a car. I think it is a Commonwealth service, I cannot remember the sign on the car and cannot find it by googling. I have also seen a multi-passenger vehicle around with the same logo. As you say, there will be local community schemes also. Also the Home Assist service drive older people to appointments. Don't know anything about costs for any of these.

$20 mill allocated?? that's a drop in the ocean compared to the billions Rudd/Gillarg/Rudd have wasted. He gave that much to have more live music in pubs.

In NSW my MIL had to go to an appointment 1 1/2 hours away, FIL couldn't drive, they were picked up by car and driven to, then taken home again for $45.
I think it was a scheme run by local council.
