Did you know (revived).

I thought I would try a Did You Know thread similar to one a few years ago. Maybe people can share some interesting facts, or trivia.

For example...

Did you know that there are more bacteria cells in the human body than human cells?

"A 'reference man' (one who is 70 kilograms, 20–30 years old and 1.7 metres tall) contains on average about 30 trillion human cells and 39 trillion bacteria, say Ron Milo and Ron Sender at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, and Shai Fuchs at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada."

"So to our 30 trillion human cells, we have on average about 39 trillion microbial cells. So by that measure, we’re only about 43% human,” said Rob Knight, director of the University of California San Diego Center for Microbiome Innovation and professor of pediatrics and computer science and engineering."

It certainly does make one wonder what it really is to be human!

Did you know these interesting facts about Cats?

  1. In Ancient Egypt, members of a family would shave their eyebrows in mourning if their cat died.
  2. The oldest known pet cat existed around 9,500 years ago. In 2004, a French Archaeologist found a grave of a cat in Cyprus dating back to 9,500 years ago, meaning that humans have owned cats as pets since then!
  3. Not only do cats have whiskers on their face, they also have a set of whiskers on the back of their front legs.
  4. Neutered males live 62% longer than unneutered cats, and spayed females live 39% longer than unspayed females.
  5. A cat’s rear end in your face is a gesture of friendship, while kneading means happiness. Draping their tail over another cat/dog/you means friendship also.
  6. The Hungarian word for quotation marks, macskaköröm, literally translates to “cat claws”.
  7. When cats don't cover their poop, it is seen as a sign of aggression, meaning they don't fear you.
  8. Cats spend nearly 1/3rd of their lives cleaning themselves, and nearly another 1/3rd of their lives sleeping.
  9. Cats can drink seawater! Their kidneys are able to filter salt out of water, something humans can't do.
  10. Cats can make more than 100 different sounds, but apparently, they only “meow” as a way to communicate with humans.

There is a glaring error in that list not_for_sale.........

......no 2.  No one, even 9,500 years ago ever, ever OWNED a cat😄

In my reply to papermoon.lady's post on the knighted penguin, I made reference to a friend of mine. He also told me that approx. 2 - 3 decades ago he attended a function in Britain which included Prince Charles. Apparently, he and his party were told beforehand not to offer a handshake to the Prince. It was explained that Prince Charles was suffering from pain and restricted movement in his hand caused by the thousands of handshakes over the previous years. And BTW, my friend also told me that Prince Charles had a great sense of humour and came across more as one of the guys at the function.
