Displacing Indigenous Australians

I'm extremely confused, are they or aren't they?

Most of those people be working, paying tax, paying a medicare levy, paying to build their houses, paying to see a doctor, paying to be in hospital, paying to have their essential services connected/installed.

Kids living there are able to be educated via home schooling, via the net, all paid for by their parents.

They are not provided with all this for NOTHING

The RFDS is free, hospitals are free (unless they choose otherwise), school is free, they also get government handouts if they are eligible, they get government farming subsidies, etc, etc.

Apples and oranges

Not one of the things you mentioned is free. That is what I was addressing not a cobbled up statistic from the HRC which is rampantly partisan and biased.

Not one thing you mentioned is free. We all pay for these services one way or another. The RFDS is subsidised and they also rely on fund raising to keep going.

Farmers and graziers are the backbone of this country and they pay taxes just like all of us. If they get fuel subsidies well they deserve it, urban welfare recipients and remote communities  do not contribute.

So apples and oranges?

It can't be compared to sit down money that has destroyed the aboriginal race, never allowed them to catch up, drugs, alcohol and petrol sniffing has ruined families and sexual abuse and violence is just a normal part of everyday life for some.

If the gap is to be closed, then all aboriginal people need to get up, get out of the destructive cycle and enter the 21st century.

This will never happen, has not happened even though billions of dollars has been thrown at it, it's time to take another direction even if they don't like it it's better than doing nothing for another 200years.

BS.  RFDS, hospitals, schooling, etc.are all free to the consumer, even those in remote areas.    Smiley LOL

We pay for these services with our taxes. This is the myth perpetrated by many that all the welfare entitlements are free, doctors visits, hospitals and educatiion is free.

NO it isn't never has been and never will be. OUR taxes pay for it all. The working people of Australia pay for these services by paying income tax.

They are free to the people who do not participate in the workforce and therefore they don't pay tax to contribute to their use of these services.

Perhaps you havent experienced having rocks thrown at your head which broke your nose, cheek and jaw bones and permanently damaged your sight in one eye.

Perhaps you havent had rocks thrown at your car, had both your house and property damaged, had rotting food thrown all over your house, dog poo smeared all over your car and letter box, experienced death threats and a whole lot more.

Had to sell your house  and move because you couldnt take the threats to your life, aggression, filthy language any more

NO I have NO sympathy whatsoever and I never will

Did this really happen to you when you stepped foot in an isolated settlement?

Or did this happen in a town by displaced and disaffected youths?

So by closing the settlements we are forcing more of the same to regional centres and towns because unemplyment will be rife and substance abuse will provide solace?

Really if this is what happened to you then I would have thought you would have been AGAINST closing isolated communities down.

These services are FREE to all who wish to consume them, including those white people living in remote areas.

Why then do you want to deny the same services to non-white people living in remote areas?

Smacks of blatant racism to me.

I never said that I want to deny anybody of services. Please try to read my post before you throw the racist insult around.

You know well and good that my post NEVER mentioned anything of the sort.

I repeated and repeated that these services are NOT free have never been FREE they are paid for by workers paying income tax.

One of the more successful remote sites have allowed mining on their land for nearly 50 years and it spawned many amazing artists and entrepreneurs.

As for your condescending statement that they have too much respect to mine their own land just goes to show you have no idea  and would rather perpetrate the "noble savage" mantra you and the Labor party and the Greens and other self interested groups just love to spout.

You disrespect self determination and you disrespect the very people you are eschewing you care about. Hollow urban talk.

Actually I didn't say that they do not mine their own land at all. Not sure where you got that from. I said they do not "use" their land and that care of the land is fundamental to their way of life.

Note the use of quotation marks around the word "use" and now re-read the sentence in that context.

In regards to the "billions" made from leasing out land, you will find that for those corporations who have entered agreements with the Central land Council have done so with extremely carefully negotiated clauses in regards to environmental and site protection, native title requirements, managing resources through undermining as well as training and employment for the indigenous communities affected.

Each community has their own individual way of managing their lands.
