He doesn't remember seeing the menu at the charity event he was guest of honour at?

For a man that loves his food I am absolutely sure he would have glanced at the menu, it would also have been a huge talking point, amazing it has not leaked earlier - just goes to show the people that attended have absolutely no decorum - it is just not funny at all.

The menus could have easily been printed by an individual using their office computer. 40 menus isn't much of a job for a printer co.

he lied barefaced about his 'fully costed' elction budget and was caught out and nobody seems to care, if he lied about this it isn't surprising.. its also the most likely scenario.

Yes, but there are at least 40 odd people who know which establishment that menu made an appearance at - if it did.
LOL "used to work" - so the "chef" who no longer works at this place (either the place has a high staff turnover or the establishment will be able to work out which chef it was), is disgruntled enough to release the menu and destroy the reputation of the restaurant and also any chance he can use it on a future resume...... no agenda there, eh?

Imagine what went on in the old days in politics before social media, emails, sms, photocopiers etc.

The restaurant is unamed crikey. You could google and see if you can find the name of it.

shining a light on these clods is an agenda worth praising..

Oh, c'mon hey.
The restaurant is unnamed?
How many rocket scientists would it take to figure out which restaurant hosted a function for 20 VIP guests on a certain date?
Their competitors would be all over this like a fly to honey and leaking their own "unnamed" information.
So has anyone verified the authenticity of the menu? So far all we have is people saying they never saw it, don't we? And one lone unnamed chef who claims he did.

True, so why is the OP only singling one of them out?

Good point.
Perhaps a disgruntled employee...... after the event?
Perhaps some other person with some kind of agenda? Even if it was just meant to be a private joke and never intended for media release?
