I might need to re-think this. Water everywhere and carpets ruined. Not me, a friend who works away.
Just spent hours swooshing water out.

No, I don't leave the taps on, but we did have a rather hairy experience being flooded via the washing machine once because the installer of the new washer did something weird with the pipe connection. When I turned it on for the first time we had a rather grand tidal wave ...
Happily though, the installer came back immediately and reinstalled the pipes properly, then helped us mop up .. so all was well.

I dont have a large tank, so find it easier to leave it hooked up to the washing machine ..... I admit I do use a fair amount of water during late Spring/Summer but it's mainly 'cause of the fruit trees and veggie gardens. Adding it up, I still come out on top $$$ wise n taste wise as well ..... I keep a cpl of 2 litre bottles beside the kitchen sink 'cause the hot tap takes a while to heat up, so I run the excess water into the bottles and use it for dog water or on the pot plants ..... I keep a bucket in the shower for the same reason
