Do you think it's possible to be happy all the time?

Would you want to be if it was possible?

If there was a pill that gave you the sensation of feeling happy all time time. WOuld you take it?

We all experience highs and lows in life I think.

To do otherwise suggests a lack of feeling, sensitivity or empathy for others.

What measurement method would you have to measure happiness if you were in a constant state of happiness?

Would you not be jarred out of your 'happiness' by seeing others less fortunate than ourselves?  I would hope so.

Such a pill would not be for me - I am content with the 'colours' of my life as they accord me an appreciaion of others' plights.

Hopefully I act on that appreciation.

OK, lets go with feeling happy makes you feel better than your "normal" state. If you were happy all the time, then eventually that would become your "normal", so in theory, then you would then strive to raise the anti to gain that "happy feeling".

so I don't think it is possible to be happy in that context all of the time.

That's why people do drugs and they escalate to harder drugs, to try and capture that feeling of "happy". They get desensitized to it after a while, and what was once happy, isn't happy any more.

if happy means content, then yes, I do believe that it is possible to feel content all of the time.

I wouldn't like that though, I believe it would prevent people from trying new things or from pursuing their true potential or from 'reaching higher"

I have meet people that seem very happy and very enthusiastic about life every day.. I don't know them on a personal level so who knows if they are like that 12+ hours a day.

I'm with you Crikey.

I am very happy and contented with my own life, BUT I do get very low (sometimes to the point of tears) when I see others suffer, individually or collectively.

I have found  that people who are always 'happy' do not care about others or the wickedness and cruelty in the world, or they are unaware of it.  Maybe they just put it out of their mind....I don't know.....but I can't.

I very rarely give kudos. But that's a very good answer. I like it.

I just figured out an alternative to your point Crikey. I want to take that kudos back.

Suppose what you said is true. If I was to make someone's life a living hell and never gave them a break and caused him/her as much pain as possible. I'm essentially making them happy when I'm a little lenient on him/her right.

So can you argue I'm making him/her happy when I don't torture them every 2nd day?
