I like Harley Babes Hords answer

Nobody has the right to lay a hand on another regardless of gender.

But in reality rights are volated all the time. According to most people, everybody, men and women have the right to hit me. But according to many of those same people, I'm the only one doing the hitting, even though I never hit anyone in my entire life. Unless you count my face and body hitting their hands and boots as they were comming at me.

Truth is NV is unpopular. NV= (non violence) Movies, video games, most everywhere you look. and in movies and video games I suppose theres no harm in it. It just shouldn't carry over into reality.

But this topic is about if or not a man has the right to hit a woman who hits him first. I don't know, it somehow don't seem unfair if the woman hits him first. However, how does anyone who was not there know who hit first. There's a saying that history is written by the victors and it's really hard to win in a fight if you refuse to fight back.

I too agree with HBH & with Julia.

We do - I feel - have a ' right ' to self defense - within reason.

But is a ' right ' - the right word - it isn't a right to hit - it is a will to hit - surely.

Even if driven - self restraint - the will to restrain from such action - should be in all of us.

And I don't think 'turning the other cheek' is the answer either.

The pen is mightier than the sword - can be.

Perhaps the mother should consider relinquishing her parental rights.

I think parents in general should put a lot more thought into things before they act. This kind of reminds of the public shaming a local man received when he took a selfie in front of a store and some children "thought" he was taking their photo. The mother took his photo and uploaded it to facebook, it instantly went viral and made the news.

Who knows in this case what the man did to supposedly frighten the kid. I knew a kid that was frightened by one of their parents friends because they had bad teeth. Based on what we know the mother definitely acted badly, if the guy turned around and punched her in the face in retaliation then its probably excessive. If he connected with her face whilst attempting to fend her off then that probably couldnt be helped.

If any crazy person, male OR female attacked me I have the right to defend myself with reasonable force.

The woman was obviously a nutter, 1) for believing her 7 year old son and 2) attacking someone who could be completely innocent of any wrongdoing.

If it was me I'd now be consulting with a lawyer.

...If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?...

So - possum - which would you prefer.

A prick, a tickle, some poison, or a wrongful doing.

Just asking.

What an amusing thought... Used to work for one, never much cared for them, I didn't mind "Every rose", in it's day, and I think I'm way past my prime, for the last one.

As to the original question; quid pro quo.

You cannot injure your attacker if he or she is retreating, nor continue to apply force if it goes past the point of defense and becomes instead an act of retaliation. Otherwise you might find yourself being charged.
