Drunk And Disorderly

After yet another incident in Sydneys CBD last weekend where a young man was king hit in an unprovoked attack:

Man in intensive care after random attack in Sydney's CBD

A man is in intensive care after he was knocked unconcious in an unprovoked attack in Sydney's CBD overnight.

Matthew Blackmore, 33, was walking down George Street at about 12:20am (AEST) after a work function when he was approached by a group of up to five men.

Mr Blackmore remains in hospital with a fractured vertebrae and broken nose.

"The Wran government had decriminalised drunken behaviour after criticism it  unfairly targeted Aboriginal people before the Commission made its  recommendations. ''Reintroducing it would make a mockery of the  Attorney-General's rhetoric about reducing indigenous incarceration rates,'' Mr  Lynch said."

Do you think it would help minimise alcohol-fuelled violence if the charge of Drunk and Disorderly as a criminal offence be re-introduced?

it's a bit like having sniffer dogs at railway stations .. they catch people who are Not driving with a tiny amount of pot or whatever...

surely that dog and the police would be better used sniffing around elsewhere searching for the big players.

I didn't realise drunk and disorderly was no longer a crime, I know disorderly conduct is still, here in WA the nanny state our police minister wants to make it illegal to be intoxicated on a licensed premises ! I think that's taking things a step to far!

So you think getting blind drunk, staggering around and picking any random stranger to punch in the head and kick him while he's down is an admirable Aussie trait do you, Spot?

I hardly drink anymore... and if I do it is one or two drinks and that is it....

I can remember going out and lots of people getting drunk and fights were a rarity...

The only drama I ever came across was the shooting and that was not even alcohol related...

I don't know why people get the urge to beat someone up when they drink...

Something needs to be done as too many people are getting seriously injured.
