University diversity officer keeps job despite ‘kill all white men’ tweet

A UNIVERISTY diversity officer who allegedly tweeted “kill all white men”, described white people as “trash” and attempted to ban “cis men” from a social gathering has managed to keep her job.

Bahar Mustafa, 27, a student union officer at the UK’s Goldsmiths University, has been embroiled in a months-long row over a series of alleged racist and sexist incidents, but maintains she cannot be racist because she is an ethnic minority woman.

It all began in February, when Ms Mustafa promoted an event on Facebook inviting only BME, or black and minority ethnic women. “[Please] invite loads of BME Women and non-binary people!!,” she wrote.

“Also if you’ve been invited and you’re a man and/or white PLEASE DON’T COME just cos i invited a bunch of people and hope you will be responsible enough to respect this is a BME Women and non-binary event only.”

Ms Mustafa, who organised the student union event to protest against inequality, celebrate racial unity and challenge the “white-centric culture of occupations”, had earlier posted similar invitations to “BME only” social gatherings.

Received this email today written by an Englishman - Racist - me? A white woman could not be in the Miss Black Britain or Miss Asia, but any colour can be in the Miss UK . If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships.. You know we'd be racists. There are over 200 openly proclaimed Muslim only schools in England .. Yet if there were 'White schools only', that would be a racist school !. In the Bradford riots and Toxteth riots, you believed that you were standing-up for your race and rights. If we stood-up for our race and rights, you would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists. We fly our flag, we are racists. If we celebrate St' Georges day we are racists. You can fly your flag and its called diversity. You celebrate your cultures and its called multiculturalism. I am proud.... But you call me a racist. Goldsmiths said in a statement on Thursday: “To clarify, Bahar Mustafa is not an employee of the university and is not a student. The Students’ Union is independent of Goldsmiths, University of London. It is run by student officials elected by union members.

“Both the University and the Students’ Union are committed to fighting all forms of oppression, including racism, sexism and any other form of bigotry. Goldsmiths has a global reputation for our research in disability, race, faith and feminist studies.

“We are in active discussions with Goldsmiths Students’ Union over this important matter. We are treating all concerns with sensitivity and with the utmost urgency.”

Mustafa was re-elected as Goldsmiths’ Student Union Welfare and Diversity Officer in early March. She was the only candidate and received 639 votes. She is a former MA Gender and Media Studies student at the university.
