Electricity Bills

Not sure if this has been done on here before but thought it may be interesting.

My bill was $460.44 with all the mod cons used, dishwasher reverse cycle air con most nights electric cooking, hot water, Outside lights on few hours of a night, washing a few loads a day, Air con used few hours most days. We don't use the dryer. We watch TV 1hr each night for the news and then its turned off as we dont allow the children to watch it, They have to do school work and bible study.

We mainly only use electricity from 5-10pm and around 2hrs of a morning as we work full time and children are in before and after school care as well attending church Saturday as well sport and church/bible study on sunday's so roughly the same times each day we use the electricity, The fridge/freezer obviously going 24/7

We don't have a gas connection where we live.

Children should not watch the TV news until they are in high school.  There are way too many inappropriate things on it.

I feel sad for kids who can't watch TV for relaxation or education but are forced to watch and report back on TV news which is most often not age appropriate - What primary school child needs to hear about rape and murder?  Organised crime?  Drug busts?  Children killed and maimed by fire?

I'm a teacher and the last thing I would let my almost 7 year old watch is the news.

I want to know how you find the time to do the washing for your BIG family in your little 4kg machine if both parents work full time, you take kids to and from sport, go to church and spend your spare time discussing the horrors on the evening news with your children, plus supervise their homework and bible study.

The kids do it between bible study, discussing all the news highlights and getting A grades of course LOL.

I really feel like I missed out badly in life because I was out in the South African bush chasing bugs around and getting dirty when I was smaller, then hanging out with mates in the UK when I lived there, when all the time I should have been studying all the wonderful things the OPs kids get up to.

Geez, no wonder I ended up never being out of work all my life, never got into drugs, never got interested in grog and made a pretty comfortable life for myself. (Bugger! I did learn to smoke though lol)

Oh where, oh where did I go wrong, boohoo.

Try letting your kids breathe for themselves a little OP, it won't hurt them or you, but if you don't grant them a little bit of slack you may well end up losing them totally in a few yaears if they rebel against your overly strict manner.

Kids need to be kids before the become adults all too soon.

Opps, sorry, after reading all the other sideline stuff about your household I had forgotten what the original topic was all about ... electricity bills I think ...

My place eats the stuff like it's going out of style even though I live alone, but that's because I couldn't care -a-less about turning things on and off behind me as I do whatever I'm doing at the time, but then I don't need to think about the cost of the bill since I had solar panels installed so my power bills always manage to still tell me that the power company owes me money no matter what I do.

My secret aim is to get all my solar panel installation cost back somehow lol

Maybe one day they'll send me a massive retrospective power bill for power I used without being billed for it, but then I'll more than likely have a massive heart attact at the shock of the bill size and drop dead on the spot, so I still won't give a damn lol.

Modern day TV apart from the news is not educational ( we do discuss the news each night which the children will either go look in books or the Internet if a answer cannot be located through one of our books,

I'm sure If i allowed them to sit in front of the TV they aren't going to be well educated to get them through life,

They have a full 3hr session after school including  teachings from the bible including a few hours over the weekend, We want our children to be able to grow into full educated adults that will gain excellant skills and knowledge that will gain  employment.

Currently they are getting A's and B's which getting a B is Ok but they are to try harder for next time and we meet with the teachers to discuss how can we go about getting a better result and work on it.

I feel To many kids these days are stuck in front of the TV,Internet, uneducational activity or out roaming the streets which the majority end up growing up to work in lower grade jobs have drug problems out of control behaviours an such, Because ''most'' of the parents are to uninterested in teaching them at an early age so i believe i'm doing all i can to prevent that and have very well behaved kids which they know what happens if they push the limits.

To each his own, but please don't undervalue the learning that cannot be found in books, the scriptures and the news.

You seem a strict parent and that is your perogative. However, there are plenty of kids who were not raised as strictly and they have not turned to drugs and crime but are leading very productive lives. Your sweeping generalisations can be offensive to others.
