Wow, Des O'Connor. He was a legend. Not into his music in a big way but he was a great guy! I remember back in the 70s, Des and Max Bygraves were the kings of the variety shows. They ruled!

'Ultimate entertainer' Des O'Connor dies aged 88
Entertainer Des O'Connor has died at the age of 88, his agent has confirmed.
The comedian, singer and TV host died on Saturday following a fall at his home in Buckinghamshire just over a week ago.
He was known for hosting his own chat show, as well as Take Your Pick and Countdown - and for his friendship with Morecambe and Wise.
In a statement his agent said he was "well loved by absolutely everybody" and "loved life".
His long-time agent and family friend Pat Lake-Smith described him as the "ultimate entertainer" and said he had been recovering from the fall before his condition had suddenly deteriorated.
She said: "He was a joy to work with - he was talented, fun, positive, enthusiastic, kind and a total professional. He loved life, and considered enthusiasm almost as important as oxygen."

Gee I can't believe that Kevin Dobson died in September. I remember him as Crocker in Kojak, Detective Jack Shannon in Shannon, and also the role he played in Knotts Landing. That guy's face was so familiar and a true TV staple.

Sidney Poitier is still alive. Personally, I think he is up there with Douglas. In the Heat of the Night was a great movie IMO.

I think I read somewhere that he felt he could no longer live in the shadows of his grandfather. He wanted to be Benjamin, not Elvis's grandson. I can't remember where I read it, but was probably on the news.com.au site at the time.
Even in death, he still wasn't Benjamin, he was Elvis's grandson.
Very sad indeed.

Another great one lost this year was Olivia De Havilland. She was a ripe old 104 when she died on July 26, nearly a month after her July 1 birthday.

Yeah, you're right. There's no way he could have been himself. Elvis's grandson all the way, all the time. The thing is that you could go to most countries and a young person may have no idea who the Rolling Stones were but they would have heard of Elvis. And there would have been nasties, people jealous of his grandfather's fame just wanting to have a go at him in some way.

Mean looking guy who played the villain Zeus in wresting to a T. I always loved the way he'd walk up the isle, looking mean and flicking his arm. Bad guys in film but he was a born again Christian in real life.
He has a lot of film and TV credits.
RIP.
