Envy

The most embarrassing sin produces the worst in left leaning socialist politics and the mentality of entitlement.

The Age of Envy

The most embarrassing sin produces the worst in politics.

Of the seven deadly sins, envy, may not be the wickedest, but it is the most embarrassing.

To be possessed by envy is to admit a humiliating personal inadequacy:

We do not envy others those attainments, that we think we too might achieve, but those we despair of ever possessing.

Wrath, greed, pride, lust — all assume a certain self-possession. Sloth and gluttony are practically standard issue in times of plenty such as these.

Wrath and pride are the sins of great (but not good) people. (See Rudd)

Envy is the affliction of the insignificant. It is the small persons sin.

I feel privileged that I have gone through my life not having the burden of these hateful thoughts and feelings, in fact I feel just the opposite, I feel privileged to meet successful, kind and ambitious people, they enrich us and our lives with  their philanthropy.

Some of the greatest people I have ever met have been wealthy, but you would never know it, and their generosity is heartwarming.

Their selfless work and thinking of ways to help the less fortunate  is a unique attribute of the very wealty.

One only has to think of Bill Gates and Twiggy Forest, both work tirelessly to better the humanities.

Envy

Why do they call it on the job? I would have thought he was doing it for pleasure

What about the rich envying the even more rich?  You have to only look at the various scandals, divorces and family feuds of the very wealthy.  And resenting small handouts that the poor get is also an envy.

Greed and sense of entitlement are very prevalent among the the rich.

Most of the people on the left who I know, are far from envious of the wealthy.   It gets really tiring, being constantly accused of having our hands out and wanting to take from the wealthy.   I have never relied on the government, or anyone else to support me.  But I fully understand that there are people out there, who are living in poverty.  So yes, I do believe the wealthy should help alleviate that poverty.

It is this type of envy and resentment we are discussing here? What we are seeing on here?

Every day it's a complaint that "the rich" are this or that or the hate of the successful.

I wonder at the mindset of  the ones spouting this type of envy? what is their reason for embroiling themselves in others peoples affairs whether "rich" or not.

Has being "rich" become a dirty word now? has the class war Gillard and Swan,  along with the guidence of the incomer McTernan,  really taken root so that now there are complaints about the "rich" and the successful nearly every day?

Are we to scorn and deride the successful now? is that what has eventuated from the division and class war of Labor's tenure in power? it this their legacy? you know, the legacy they are searching for but have been unable to find.

Hear, hear.

It's ramping up in our country, nevermind that the wealthy pay the vast majority of taxes and then on top of that contribute to charities.

It is exactly as you say lighting, it is "envy" and greed I'll add, pure and simple.

I hope some will realize this does no one any good.

You wouldn't believe all the transfer payments, redistribution, welfare fraud, disability fraud that goes on in our country.

But you know, if one is not paying income tax, it is no skin off their nose.  As long as it is the other guy paying, looks real good to say, they SHOULD pay more.  Nevermind the unintended consequences of dependence on goverment vs self-reliance.

Nevermind some things lightning, your message is important and it rises above.

There is a real effort in America to diivide.  But there are just so many people that can be pulled in the wagon and there are just so many people that will be willing to pull such a load.

Yes, Thanks Step, 100% correct.

As for some who continuously carp about how despicable the rich are, call them the most appalling names, post offensive graphics, support  3rd party boycotting of businesses that they hate with their protests, it is painful to watch such envy and loathing on show.

We are also witness to the people who only want to read one type of media and pour scorn any other and don't even mention the fear and loathing they exhibit about successful media enterprises, some of the most successful enterprises on the planet, this is to be despised also.

We saw the most disgusting 3rd party boycott perpetrated by the Greens on a Tasmanian timber company who won the contract to supply flooring to the Olympic village in London, They went over there and lied, I mean outright lied, to destroy that company and they succeeded.

The world is a beautiful place, people should show some humanity towards each other but with the rise of the idle/retired and just sheer anger and resentment filled  tapping away, we are now subjected to their vilification, it's anonymous so no lifting required,  just "seeming " like the Cony campaign.

The rise of "seeming" without doing, "See how much I care, I care so much more than anybody else, see?"

envy....wasted emotion......

I can honestly say I am not envious of anyone.....

I need all the energy I have just to hold on to what I've got and continue to survive.

Well said, a wasted emotion and one better not even admitted to, unfortunately  many can't stop themselves and they end up  like the foolish opinions they espouse on here.

Never mind, pleanty of petard to go around.

I love my life, I love getting up in the morning and working, I love my community and the work I do in it, I love older people who have given so much and have wisdom and kindness to impart.

I do not begrudge listening and paying attention to the elderly, older people who really did it hard without the envy and bitterness that seems to blight so many.

Thank God we have the mega rich to help too.
