Equlity. Good thing or not?

Should all people be equal?

Once again, Poddy, you are confusing 'equal' with' uniform' or 'identical'. There is not, never has been and never can be any archetypal person to whom everyone should be identical. As Iza said, each one of us is a unique individual.

Equality, within the context of society, has a very different meaning - it means that, in an ideal society, the life, welfare and worth of every human being should be deemed to be of equal value.

As I said before,this is a Utopian ideal - human nature being what it is there will always be those in any society ready to ignore or trample on the rights of others. That doesn't mean however that we should not strive to come as close to that ideal as we can.

QUESTIONS: Why should people be denied the right to rise to their full potential if they're prepared to work for it or put in the effort?

For example: Should an elite athlete be denied their Olympic Gold Medal or recognition for their achievements, simply because other people didn't put in the same effort to achieve those heights that they have?

Should someone who sees and opportunity and takes it/works with it, not have the right for their efforts to be rewarded moreso than the person who couldn't be bothered to put in the effort?

What on earth does this rhetoric have to do with the concept of equality?

So it is the OPERTUNITY for equality that you desire not equality at all.

Opertunities abound everywhere, if you care to look. The problenm is that there are those who want to have everything handed to them on a silverplatter by a nubile waitress.

except for the last bit - whilst not a person to "look a gift horse in the mouth" or complain when opportinity comes knocking..... I would really prefer to have it all handed to me on a silver platter by some really hot looking male LOL

But that person in the wheelchair can look for other solutions to get to where they want to go.

LL Equality IS an illusion, it is an unatainable and even undesireable condition.

In a society where equality existed there would be no enovation, no achievement, improvement or detererioration of the status quo would not exist.

There could be no individual thought and that society would eventually die of boredom.

They need to go into and up that building.

What about remove the concept that having legs that work is the norm...remove the concept of normal

cater only to the person in the wheelchair...have only a lift that only they and others in wheelchairs and use......and remove the stairs ]:)
