Far Out Friday: Post-It Note Wars

Far Out Friday - The new work craze: Post-it note wars

It may hinder productivity, but the latest craze to come out of the US could help boost staff camaraderie or foster some friendly competition – and all you need is post-its!

Yes, the humble post-it is at the centre of a workplace trend that was sparked by two neighbouring office blocks in San Francisco.

Staff at two buildings situated opposite each other decided to communicate with each other using their windows as a canvas and post-its as the pen.

According to Twitter user Aly, the exchange began when people in an office identified as that of bareMinerals cosmetics wrote “Hi” on their window. From there they moved on to more ambitious projects such as post-it note minions and a game of hangman, according to the SFgate blog.

A dedicated Tumblr, featuring photos of the communication, has dubbed it the city’s “newest social media platform”.

And while judging by the tweets it’s been a source of amusement for those involved, we did spot one post-it note message telling people to get back to work. As mentioned, it’s not a craze for that will boost productivity but surely the creativity, fun and teamwork would outweigh those concerns?

So much for productivity. Is that how staff of large corporations spend shareholders $$$?

Seeing I'm the one responsible for stationery here at work, I'd be jumping up and down re the wastage of Post-it's like a kangaroo in full flight!

I hope you're not like my former "stationery" lady.  We had to take an empty/faulty pen back to her for replacement!  All old forms were collected and made into workpads.  (This was prior to Post It Notes)

Our office overlooked a neighbouring office.  One of our typists ended up marrying the "good sort" with the moustache and flairs on the 3rd floor adjoining buildingSmiley Happy

For about 4 months they had been "eyeing" each other till he held up an invitation on blue foolscap for after work drinks at a nearby pub.  We all went!

But she was singled out by him.

No I'm a very generous stationery lady, Deb. It's not my money after all, lol.

I beleive our previous receptionist was renowned for being tight though, you had to sign for what you took and long-term employees before my time still sometimes bring me their old run-out-of-ink pens when they want a new one.

I do object to blatant waste though, so using up post-its like that would make me cranky and people wallpapering their dividing wall with personal pics printed in full colour off our printer as well.
