We have 4 cats here. My 18yo black desexed male kitty arrived by himself after a dumping near the local fish & chip shop across the road. He was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand & couldn't lap. He's now blind in one eye, deaf, suffers from the kitty version of Atzheimer's & has kidney problems (as all elderly cats develop) Named Salem.
We have 2 x born late 2008 desexed male boys - one little longhair tabby / white kitten survived the Kinglake bushfires by being in a rabbit hole & was found 4 days after the fire & sent to Cat Procection Society. He was charred & suffering smoke inhalation. They were going to put him down. My daughter was working there for the Summer Uni holidays & brought him home. He still suffers from Sinus, but is otherwise healthy. Named Phoenix. Due to the brain damage he answers to Feeney & I swear he is planning world domination, as he can get into any cupboard that might hold food!
His a few weeks younger contemporary cream ginger neutered male puss is the quintissential fat cat. Another tiny handful with eyes barely open when dumped in a box in the loading dock of a Woolies store. A truck reversed over the box & he was the lone survivor of a litter of 9. Same daughter mentioned above worked @ the Supermarket & had learned not to be squeamish during her day job volunteer role @ CPS - washed him up & brought him home. Going fine but overweight despite vet prescription weight management food, Named Loki.
Last on the list is River Song..... (Named after a Dr Who character with wild hair) My middle daughter got her from The Lost Dog's home in Nov 2015. My daughter's lifelong cat Jack passed in October of that year just 2 months short of his 21st Birthday. River looks like a smaller version of Feeney (Phoenix) but is pretty much feral. Nice when she wants to be - but that isn't often!
All in all a pretty weird bunch, each with their own foibles - but then aren't all cats a little strange @ times? All are fully indoor cats so the arrival of Riversong was an eye opener for the boys .. "What; There are girl cats?"

I Like your deaf kitty / hearing kitty story... My brother volunteers for Staffie Rescue. He has 5 of the breed of his own & fosters others on his property until such time as a new home is found.
Then there was George.... 2 dogs were surrendered together to the RSPCA by elderly owners going into a nursing home. All was fine until George's friend was adopted ..... It was only then the shelter realised George was totally blind & they'd sold his seeing eye dog! (The new owners refused to return the friend nor take on George)
My brother now has George as one of his dogs. All is fine as long as no-one moves the furniture!
