You have preconceived beliefs that scientists are the only smart people in this world. If you look at human history many smart people never went to university but were later given honorary degrees for their inventions and contribution to science. UFO reports are not officially sanctioned by science papers and the media is not the final arbiter on the truth. It is the people that have actually had the experience that know the truth. You need to open your mind and think for yourself, look at the anecdotal evidence.
Not all reports are hoaxes although I understand some people suffer from delusions and enjoy reporting things that aren't there.
A credible incident for example on 24 April 1964 that of police officer Lonnie Zamora who was on his way to investigate a reported explosion in a rural area outside Socorro, New Mexico. The officer witnessed an egg-shaped craft which had landed on the side of the hill and humanoid beings doing some work on the underside of the craft, when he approached they scrambled and took off fast. Backup arrived moments before it flew off, Sergeant Sam Chavez. They investigated further and found physical evidence of the visit. This is one of the best cases in history.
The earth could be a colony / project these aliens started and created us in their image, there is yet no definite proof of our creation. Whilst certain people are Catholic or believe in Allah, others believe in nothing. In any case someone or something put us here on this earth. My guess is that it is an intelligence superior to earthly humans. This is why I say, you can't rely on scientific papers to give you the answer to everything.
