Did anyone watch "First Contact" on SBS last night and/or the reaction on NITV? It's a three part series in which a group of people who have had no contact with Indigenous people spend time in various Aboriginal communities over a period of 28 days. I was shaking my head at the rudeness and ignorance of some of the participants.

Yes, I tried to talk one of our resident posters into watching because it was so good

I loved the answer to the question asked about going swimming. "These are crocodile infested waters so if you want to go swimming, don't go swimming." LOL.
Tonight's episode looks like being quite challenging and will probably have the racist ones feeling justified in their misconceptions.

I did! One of the participants is extremely rude.................. and from what I read this isn't her "first contact?"

Regarding the turtle killing. My thoughts are, if they want to carry on the tradition of hunting, killing and eating turtles....then build a traditional boat to do it in. Not a dingy with a motor
Hmm, should they live in humpies as well?
The turtle killing was sad to see but where do they think the meat comes from that they eat at home?

Sustainable practises though? they don't hunt them in large numbers or just kill for the sake of sport. White man has caused the endangerment.

It is spiritual and respectful, and, the hunting is done in a sustainable way.

A First Look At First Contact, SBS's New Indigenous Miniseries
Tonight, well-known Australian journalist Ray Martin will take six non-Indigenous Australians on a journey of discovery across Aboriginal Australia, in a mission to confront the racist and ignorant views they have about First Nations people.
