Flashback weird parent moment for me this morning!

This morning my daughter was grumpy & whiny. Complained there were no Cornflakes; So I suggested she just eat the Rice Bubbles or other cereals there. If she didn't like the selection she could make toast.

She then complained she was tired; So I suggested that perhaps if she went to bed at a reasonable time, she wouldn't feel so tired. She continued moaning over her Rice Bubbles.

I finally had enough & told her to shut up & eat her breakfast or she would be late for school!

Right now you are thinking I'm a horrible Mum?

Her smug reply to my late for school comment was:- "I'm allowed to be late for school; I'm the teacher!" She is!

I said that to one of the nuns way back in primary school and copped 6 cuts of the cane for my efforts. She was evil that woman. Absolutely hated kids with a passion. Made sense that she became a teacher.

I went to a state primary school here in Vic in the 1960's. The Principal was an ex "Rat Of Tobruk" & rather known for his strong application of the cane & the strap. I have the distinction of being the only girl to suffer both during my time there.

Nowadays a girl having to bare her bottom for the cane would be child abuse, but back then it was the done thing!

Thanks Lyndal; At the time it hurt! But I would not cry! Evidently the boys did & copped less smacks!

The worst I ever copped was a rap on the knuckles with a ruler.

I usually managed to fly under the radar for any real punishment...not because I was a goody two shoes but I knew my grandmother (a teacher at the school I went to) would tell my mother and my mother was more to be feared than any punishment doled out at school.

I love that list! I can relate to so many of the Mum & Nanna sayings! My Mum was a modern business woman back in that time. So Nanna was my main carer. I've even known my Dad & Grandpa to say a few of those old chestnuts!

#12 was one I used myself & #1 daughter had a smarty reply @ about age 7 to that one... But Mum you told me there was a doctor; a surgeon, nurses & medical students at the hospital who all watched me being born. I couldn't have been born in a barn!

(She was breech & evidently interesting to medical students - after 36 hours of labour I really didn't care who was in the room!)

This girl is now nearly 30 & still can't close a door or turn off a light switch when here!

Hi Redders. I grew up in Adelaide and I swear my mum and Grandma used every single one of them!

And I've used most of them with my own three Smiley Very Happy
