Fraser's apology means nothing: Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios' family has dismissed Olympian Dawn Fraser's apology for comments she made about the tennis star, which have been described as racist.

"The apology means nothing to me," Kyrgios' brother Christos told Network Ten's The Project.

"Nick's behaviour on court can be construed many different ways from different people, you know, some people might think it's acceptable, some people may not, some people may understand it, some people may not, but that is black and white racist."

Fraser had told a breakfast television show on Tuesday she was disgusted by Kyrgios' behaviour and alleged "tanking" in his fourth-round Wimbledon loss to Richard Gasquet.

When asked on live TV if it was a case of having too much money and fame at such an early age and lacking humility, the 77-year-old agreed and lumped suspended Davis Cup star Tomic in with Kyrgios.

"They should be setting a better example for the younger generation of this great country of ours," Fraser told the Nine Network.

"If they don't like it, go back to where their fathers or their parents came from.

"We don't need them here in this country if they act like that."

Fraser later apologised for her remarks saying she did not intend to attack Kyrgios' ethnicity

Kyrgios is the son of a Greek-born father and Malaysian-born mother but was born in Canberra.

Tomic is German-born with a Croatian father and Bosnian mother, who migrated to the Gold Coast when Tomic was three.

I fail to see where the "black and white racist" comment applies

Dawn Fraser has aboriginal connections herself, and had to suffer the consequences of her own bad behaviour as an olympic athlete.

Perhaps the problem is that our Tennis leaders are not training the young people in how to handle the pressure.

Yes, Dawn herself, was a naughty girl at the Olympics and paid a very heavy penalty for her youthful indiscretion.

I thought her comment was blatantly (black-and-white no greyness) racist.  I was unaware that she has an aboriginal background.

Ok Kyrgios was a brat on court but Dawns comment was very rude and hurt Kyrgios parents as well.

Agree glee, however some of the petulance could be a result of domestic upbringing too.

Well I haven't seen him play, as I don't watch the tennis, but there's certainly a lot about his bad beheviour in the news, and criticism from other players that I've heard.

I think Dawn is right that he's not a good example for young Australians. She could have left off the "go back to your country" comment but I don't see how that's a "black and white racist" comment.

She included Tomic in that comment and he's not black.

She's reknowned for her straight shooting comments.

I saw Dawn Frasers interview and she said that if NK didn't want to represent Australia in tennis, then he should go back to the country where his Father, his parents came from.

The media took the end of that statement and ran wild with it, including NK and his family.

She did make a half hearted apology later on, but in all serious, I don't believe she had much to apologise for.

I'm like Icy, I don't watch the tennis, but it's all over the news atm, and NK (and Tomic) behaviour is falling short of being professional!

While I do not think Dawn should have brought his parents, or their ethnicity into this event, I do not see it being a racist comment.

If anything, NK is giving Australian sport a bad name!

the silly old biddy seems to forget her less than shining example she set when she got up to hijinks when she was young.
