Free Green Powerboards - wouldn't let the guy in

Ok so they are free. But the guy wanted to come in to the house and install them and take a photo of my TV. WT??!!! I said I couldn't let him in without seeing identification. He didn't have any. So I said 'no thanks'.

I googled and apparently they are not worth it. They turn off the TV after an hour and it can take a minute to turn it back on. Not good if you are watching a movie. You can increase timer to 3 hours but I've read it often defaults back to an hour.

Have you received your free green powerboard?

i refused the offer, the person told me off for not being environmentally aware.

 i did the same. i told him i already have powerboards so no need. which is true. the need to come 'in' is dictated by the employer i think, the photo is used as proof he at least made the pitch and did the install .

They allegedly can be set to a 3 hour wait before turn-off,  and they reset to whatever delay you have set whenever  you use any button on your remote.

However the access is to allow installation (?????)  but mainly because you will have to sign as installed  (photo proof?) which most do not realise  means you are signing over to the company  a carbon credit that they can then  on-sell to major emitters.

I have something similar and it has saved me a fair bit on electricity as my TV, Topfield and radio are no longer left on standby all day and night.  It did not take long to get used to the system and I love it

The system does not switch off after an hour unless you ignore the warning light, if you have the sensor set up so you can easily see it a green light will flash for at least 5 minutes before it switches everything off, this gives you plenty of time to use the remote, when it flashes we just increase and then decrease the volume and the light stops flashing and your TV wont switch off.

I don't know how many times I have walked out a room/house and left the TV on now I can have peace of mind to know it will automatically turn off after an hour.   When you want to turn the TV on again you just press the power button on the remote and it will come back on.

We have since gone out and bought power saving devises for all our plug, our electricity bill for the April/July quarter was $76 less than last year.  The only items that are not attached to these devises in our house are our alarm clocks, fridge, phone, security system and our modem

I am not sure about them sending someone around with no I.D and wanting to take a photo of your T.V so I can understand your caution, I would not let them in my house either.

The guy came back and said his boss was coming around with ID but my neighbour was talking to him out the front (I'd been shopping) so I let him in and he plugged it in and took a photo and I had to sign. He said it doesn't turn off after an hour and then he said blah blah blah but I wasn't listening. This tech stuff is over my head and anyway I'm trying to cook because I have a party to go to in ... ekk 20 mins.

I already have enough gadgets, gizmos and corporations telling me how to do what and when. I routinely turn off all power points before heading out for any extended time, or to bed, with the exception of the refrigerator (entire word used so as to avoid debate on the use of the letter 'D') and NDSLModem. The latter being because it was apparently my fault, that my line was disconnected a few streets away, and connected to a vacant line. This supposedly was because a tech was working in the box, and found my line to have no "noise", thereby assuming it was a vacant line and I have since been instructed by my ISP that the modem should be on at all times.

We had these installed. It worked wonderfully until we had a power outage and then it became unpredictible. lol. Not an hour, but totally random, sometimes ten minutes, sometimes hours, but sooner or later it would turn off the television.

Yes it would flash before turning itself off, but if you leave the room to make a cuppa for instance, you can miss the warning. Got sick of having to turn the tv back on all the time and removed it.

We refused it Cat. mainly because our daughter was home by herself when the guy came. I don't know what she said to him but he didn't come back.

I should get her to answer the door to all of them, lol

I just flick the telly off every time I walk through the lounge. Much to Man Of The House's disgust.
