I used to work in a laboratory, performing chemical analysis primarily. We quite often got products to analyze that had been returned by customers. Some of the stuff we found in them would make your hair curl. All no name brands. We also received dried herbs from Europe to analyze after the Chernobyl disaster. We didn't have the equipment to check them out, so sent them off to AGAL- the government testing laboratories. They were way over the safe limits for radioactive contamination. Kelp tablets we analyzed contained heavy metals.

I don't understand why anyone buys food labelled anything but grown/made/canned in Australia.

For godness sakes - pay a little more so that you at least can be more confident in what you are getting

well in the light of the SPC thread I thought this was a valid point for keeping food production going in Oz for our personal health as well as the health of our economy.

The way our farms are being sold off to foreign countries because farmers cant get any assistance.

the clean food will end up being exported back home and we will end up importing contaminated rubbish to feed our kids.

food for thought

Spot I can imagine what comes in as not much is tested for banned chemicals and much is self certified, what a joke that is and we wonder why we get sick

Not all components of certain products are tested. For example, when we tested veterinary products (drugs etc) all, production batches and components were tested. In the case of say multi-vitamins,we might only check the amount of ascorbic acid and B12. If we did check every component, you'd be paying $75-80 for a container of multi-vitamins.

By the way,rat fur/droppings and shards of plastic were just some of the things we found in processed foodstuffs.

Just one more reason to keep food production here in Oz where it is subject to real quality control and inspections
