Fruit & veggies from supermarkets that are weighed at checkout.

Just recently  I shopped at the local W........, to get a few supplies after work.

As lettuce was a bit expensive just decided to get a small quantity of the mixed salad leaves and a couple of other veggies and some fruit.  That time of day it is usually busy and was waiting in line at 15 items or less with a couple of people in front and was annoyed that the people who had just lined up behind me were told to go to another checkout and they were finished while I was still waiting.  My turn and I just want to get out of there when I notice that the small amount of salad leaves weighed over 300 grams and was  $6.00.  I

said to the girl "I didn't think there was 300grams there," she then said, "all I can do is weigh it again".

This time from over 300grams it weighs 113 grams and is under $2.   I said that's a bit of a concern and she just shrugged it off.   On the way home in the car I thought if 1 item was weighed wrong there's a chance

the others might be out.  Got home, and weighed the item and out of the 7 , 5 were double their correct weight.  I then rang the store and spoke to the Service Manager and was concerned if it's happend to me how many others had been overcharged through the day.  She mentioned that each morning the scales are checked.  She apologised and offered a full refund of what I spent on the fruit & veggies.  From now on I will be a bit more attentive.

It's actually a very serious offence for a vendor's scales to be out.....there is a website specifically for it but can't for life of me remember what it's called, sorry

I would make a complaint too, the relevant authority will most likely do a 'spot' check on them.

At the supermarket where I worked, they would check the scales in the morning at the checkouts and the deli one 3 times a day.  Ours would tend to not read anything at all, so we'd have to reset it.

Once that happened to me....I was the one at the end of the line and the girl who opened the checkout looked right at me and motioned me to her. I could feel the knives shooting out of the eyes of the others, lol. After that I just stay in the line I'm in and would just watch the others scramble to get in line first.:-D I'm not in THAT much of a hurry.

Shortly after that they would get the attention of approx. the 4th person in line and bring them up first and the rest in order.

When you're getting something weighed that comes in a container look at the scale where it says 'tare weight'. That's there so you are not paying for the container at the price of whatever you're buying.

BTW...grapes are still 3 cents each!

I wonder if it's the scales that are incorrect or if the operator is resting or leaning on them somehow
