Germaine Greer

Have just been listening to an interview on ABC 24 and she called Juliar Gillard an organ grinders monkey the way she dressed. Here was this wrinkled stick with a head of hair that looked like she had put her hand in the power socket critisizing how another person looked. I personally have never admired this loud, overbearing feminist.

really?  As far as I know Germaine always had whole pack of admirers, and still does.  She was beautiful, and not all men want a shrinking violet for a partner.  Actually, nowadays most interesting men want a strong woman standing on her own feet.

Here's a question -  I have looked but have not found any evidence of her ever having a partner ?

So she managed to keep her private life private.  Just because you do not read all about it in the gossip rags, does not mean she did not have partners. .    actually she was married once & I doubt she was ever very long without one

Germaine Greer has been married, that is true.

but it should have no relevance to who she is as a person...except to show that she has had experience of living with a man and hopefully listening to him and his views.

Just curious as I could not find anything, I mean partner as in living with a man or woman in a relationship ?

Greer was very scathing and smart mouthed about Julia Gillards style of dress on Q&A it would appear since the outrage she has made excuses and back peddled regarding her comments about Julia Gillard's dress sense.

Germaine did ONCE say, as a throw away comment, that Julia should get rid of those awful jackets.  It was said in half joking way; it was not nasty, it was a very GOOD constructive advice.  Julia's jackets were not doing anything for her.  What do you mean about excuses and back peddling?   What do you suppose to do when every reporter harps on one line that you said.  What more is there to say?

By the way, far from denying the difference between genders:

"Greer  asserts that women's liberation meant embracing gender differences in a positive fashion"

My problem is with the public humiliation, she also went on to say the jackets made her **bleep** look big, blah blah blah, why did she feel the need to critize her style of clothing like she did? To my way of thinking that was just rude. I was speaking about the interview I watched today, she tried to make out Gillard was being dressed by the Labour party, what rot, too late for trying to make excuses for her rudeness.

Nova, may I ask if you managed to shed the shackles of  "bourgeois perversion of motherhood" as suggested by the matriarch of feminism?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

This was the whole point of my post, how dare GG critisise another persons dress when she looks like she does.

Jul 11, 2011 - Germaine Greer says her marriage to Paul du Feu was "like living again with my parents and being told what to do".

He was a British carpenter.

easy enough to find on google, just search Germaine Greer married. She has had other relationships too.

noone should publically criticise anyone else's dress style, no matter what they themselves look like, unless it is their job as a fashion reporter.

  It was said in half joking way;

No she wasn't joking, it was rude and uncalled for, she meant every word she said. I lost any respect I had for Greer after those comments.

She did go on to say women have big **bleep**s so get over it,  who cares.

There seem to be some here who know very little about her.  I'd suggest they read some or all of her books.

Thanks for explaining newstart Smiley Happy

I'm sure for some "Juliar" is sort of hard-wired into their consciousness,  not to mention their spellcheck. Man Happy
