nearly out of ideas, last thing to look at is, if it has tried to install the wrong drivers and they are now on the system, check printers and if its listed uninstall and start again.

thanks for all the suggestions. 

it installed on the XP lappy.

everything i have found on google says its supposed to be compatible with win 7  but it has known issues and to seek help from microsoft.

there has to be a fix somewhere so i'll keep looking, meanwhile i can use the other machine if i need to.

yes nuisance isn't it ,  i liked windows xp better than windows 7.

My very first was a HP and a piece of junk

then had a couple of cannon's and was very happy with them

I then bought a epson as my scanner was playing up and it was cheaper to buy a 3 in 1 unit.

my last cannon has finnaly failed so I fitted the Epson with a (CISS) the biggest diffence in the Epson is so slow to print and it hasnt got auto on and off like the Cannon
