Do not like the show, but may watch it because the stories I have heard of Hillsong are quite jaw dropping.
Nothing wrong with making money, though I think the lord may have a problem if you use him/her to accumilate personal wealth in their name.

$279 for a single adult?
that is a lot....i didn't pay that much for floor seats to see JB at the same venue
$250 for a kid on a group deal of about 50 including accommodation and food for 1st to the 5th July (so 5 nights) (accom is sleeping on the floor of a church)
This includes bus/transport and conference ticket for the full conference which includes Jam sessions (different from adult tickets - adults have electives and Jam is a youth program.) in the middle of the day and day and night time rallies.

Crikey, we have been lucky, we were able to pay our's off and have accomodation with family. My youngest was also sponsored to go so we didn't have to pay for her. I think she is more excited than we are !

I only have one who wants to go and he's been to the last two - he had a great time each time and they took the kids to do some sight seeing as well. I could think of worse ways that a kid could spend some of his holidays, he's come home safe and sound the last two times, the supervising adults include some of his school teachers and other members of the community that we know well, he enjoys it, so I can't see the harm.
Apparently that was the early bird offer, anyone who wants to go now is being charged $270. I have no idea if that price is partially subsidized.

Let me see if I've got this right, and feel free to step in and correct me.
A large group of adults (fully grown men and women) congregate in groups to throw large amounts of money and praise at a thing which may or may not exist whilst simultaneously discounting all science.
...And you're all surprised that some people take advantage of this stupidity and make a bit of cash.
Welcome to Earth, you must be new here

LOL Patch - last year my kid took $50 spending money for the whole trip - I doubt he or any of the others were throwing any money anywhere but in the shops in Sydney.
And he certainly doesn't discount Science (and nor does his school - his school principal is a Scientist) he takes Chem Physics and Biol, and is taught both Evolution and Creationism.

Patchoo, I don't mean this in a rude or disrespectful way, but I no longer feel the need to justify to people why I have Faith and the Beliefs that I have.
I will only say that until you have the experiences that I have had, you couldn't understand my choices.
Much the same as I don't expect people to justify their lack of Faith to me.
Faith is extremely personal and I am not hurting anyone or being hurt myself.
And for the record, I have a Bachelor of Science and my major was in Biology and I don't believe that evolution and creationism are mutually exclusive.

With regards to the costs etc...work out how much it would cost you to see at least 5 bands in a large concert and at least 8 world renowned public speakers. It is a bargain, the experience is worth it alone.

Well there's your problem.. Evolution and creationism are mutually exclusive ideas
I didn't say your son in particular discounted science, but many do.
You know what, this sounds like a great idea; lets all join a cult called "Catch the Fire" in these heady post Waco days.
That's it, pack it up people, we're never going to the stars, we will never achieve interstellar communication and any beings out there are definitely unlikely to join nor condone worship of a non-existent thing.
Can someone please clarify for me, because I find it really difficult; when something good happens it's God's will eg. "Yay my car keys, thank you lord Jesus" and "Young Sarah diagnosed with brain cancer died this morning" Why didn't he help? Was she bad? Did she not have a soul? Was she not baptised? Did Daddy not give tarry on Sunday?
Why is he helping you find your keys and not helping sick kids? Sounds like a right numpty
THROW MONEY AT HIM! It'll help I promise!
And as you're leaving please pass my sales table where I have some hen's teeth, and some crocodile tears to sell you; cheap rates!

LOL - I agree with most of what you've said there Patch - I'm not into it all so can't answer your questions well, but others wilkl no doubt come along.
But from what I gather, there is a huge merchandising section at the event - from CD's to t-shirts the works!
(He's home sick today) he says he is taught about the God concept of how he got here, but is also learns about "The Big Bang Theory" and he said string theory?
Me, I'm not fussed what he (or anyone) chooses to believe - whatever gets em through the day and helps them make it out the other side. As long as they are exposed to all theories and can make an informed decision,
Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.
