Halal Choices..... are you concerned with the halal slaughter of animals such as beef, lamb and poultry.

To be halal certified the animal must be facing Mecca, have its throat cut while still alive and then ritually sacrificed by a Muslim who recites a prayer dedicating the slaughter to Allah.

Because the animals must be slaughtered alive, stun guns are often not an option as they can kill an animal before the heart pumps out all the blood.

The presenter is Kirralie Smith, an average Aussie housewife, who does the weekly grocery shopping.

Ms Smith became aware, then alarmed, about the Islamic halal certification on so many of her shopping list items. She looked for a list of halal certified foods so she could make informed choices about what to buy and what to avoid.

There was no such list, yet so many supermarket products were stamped 'halal certified'.

Ms Smith started to do her own investigation, calling supermarket chains, grocery producers - even the halal certifiers - all so she could be better informed when she went to do her shopping.

She has personally contacted over 500 companies to determine their halal certification status.

What she discovered was bigger than big.

Kirralie Smith is the founder and director of HalalChoices. Kirralie holds a BA in Theology and lives with her family in coastal New South Wales. What started as an attempt to put together a shopping list for her family led to two years of research into halal certification schemes in Australia; as well as our most comprehensive resource concerning these tax-like schemes now imposed on the majority of our food products.

HALAL IS MUCH MORE FUN

http://pickeringpost.com/story/halal-is-much-more-fun/4015

It was Friday night shopping and, along with all the usual items, I made sure of my Bega Cheese, Vegemite and my Tassal smoked salmon. When I arrived home I separated out all the items, including meat, that carried that little Islamic Halal logo. (Strangely there were a lot of different Islamic logos.)

Now, I object to the way Muslims like to kill their animals but I object even more to Vegemite being slaughtered in the same way,

On Saturday, around 10am, I walked back into Woollies with my docket and an armful of everything that was halal certified, looked for the longest line of people waiting at a checkout and practically threw them at the poor checkout chick. (Unfortunately she was collateral damage.)

The line of people waiting looked shocked as I demanded to see the manager.

I had opened each of the items, including a carton of ice cream and spread the contents out on the checkout table, demanding to know why I was unknowingly supporting Islamic ventures.

I was really on a roll by the time the manager arrived, I already had the whole line of people checking their trolleys for halal certified items.

The manager held his hands up and asked me to settle down and assured me he would refund me the cost of each of the products.

Actually I didn’t need settling down, I was grinning like a Cheshire cat inside, but to his moderating credit, he totalled up each of about 20 different items (one of which I was overcharged for) and immediately handed me a refund from the cash register while the stunned checkout chick and a dozen shoppers looked on.

The opened items will undoubtedly be returned to the suppliers, hopefully with an enlightening message.

If Kirralie Smith of halalchoices.com can give her life over to a just cause politicians run away from, then that’s the least I can do.

It was sort of fun, but I can’t do that to Woollies again because of their security cameras and anyway you can checkout your own stuff now.

But I’ve got my eye on a few Coles’ outlets.

Muslim Halal Food Sales Supporting Terrorism?

CBN News has discovered that some of the money made from Muslim halal food sales is funneled to fund terrorist activities.

Why would you open the items?

I would be embarrassed to return any item for refund when the sole reason was a label clearly seen when purchased.....................

If an item is off, tastes funny, damaged etc.... yes.

I wonder what other ways we contribute to funding terrorism?

"The line of people waiting looked shocked as I demanded to see the manager."

More like they were thinking "who is this nutcase and why do I have to wait to be served while he carries on like a crazy person"

What did he achieve by doing this? Nothing at all. Or confirmation he has lost the plot?

Why would he think that? Straight into a bin more likely.

I would be shocked that someone was so rude as to push ahead of"the longest line" Not someone I would associate with though..........

Since when do checkouts have 'tables'?

Well for some reason, my post was removed - so I will ask again - Nero, do you consider pickering's behaviour to be appropriate and reasonable ?  Do you support his course of action ?

I would take that one up with the mods. No reason to remove your post was there?
