Count this happening in each State and the number of non votes would make a big difference. Why did they think that Nursing Homes votes were unimportant? Because neither party had anything better to offer the Old Age Pensioner.

Why would you assume that all residents of Nursing Homes are Pensioners Erica?
My father was not a pensioner....he was paying hundreds of dollars every week for his place in a Nursing Home. We registered him as a permanent postal voter so there was no chance of him missing out on voting.

Lyndal I'm not having a go at anyone. It's just I've been reading "I thinks" all over the place (not just here) about what goes on at elections. Just thought I'd set some misconceptions right.

Not everyone in a Nursing Home has family to attend to their needs.
I admit that not everyne in a Nursing Home is a Pensioner, but the majority are, and some good news towards the cost of care would benefit all residents.
I have friends in Nursing Homes in different small towns around me and two of them never saw anyne about voting. I live in a Retirement Village with a Nursing Hme attached. We had the chance to vote in the Nursing Home last Tuesday.
All I am saying is that as far as I am concerned the whole voting system is a shemozzle and never has the correct count. All in all whatever happens, none of us will be better of.

so tell me which country has a better voting system?
i know ours isnt perfect but its pretty good and no one gets hurt trying to vote that i know of.
we dont need secruity forces with AK47s standing guard on polling booths. our pollys can go about the comunity relatively safely.
of course we dont get 100% of those able to vote actually voting but we dont do anything to try to 'rig' the votes that i can see.
i'm sure if our govt could 'rig' the result this one would, i'n pretty sure malcom doesnt want to win by 1 seat.

Why would either side not want to win by 1 seat? A win is a win in anyone's language and ensures that they can keep their noses in the trough for another few years.
A hung parliament could trigger another election which the current winner may lose.

what i ment was he'd rather win by more than 1 seat and if there was a way to 'rig' things to get more seats both sides would.
prolly if it was possible, being in power would make it easier that trying to rig a vote result from opposition.
remember how hard it was to unseat jo bielkie in queensland with his gerry mander?

But, but, but.......everyone loved Joh didn't they? Why would they have wanted to get rid of him??
I thought it was only the voters in other states who thought Joh had outlived his usefulness.
