Has anyone here ever had a BCC removed from their face? Much of a scar?

I have one and can't decide if I should have a plastic surgeon do it or just the skin specialist.

I am not complaining because anything that happens to me from here on in I have well and truly earn't but I am scared because

I have never had anything go wrong before.

My elderly Mother had a BCC removed from the top of her eye lid by an eye specialist, it involved a skin graft, tiny scar only if you know it's there and look for it.

Margo, I had one removed from below my right eye by my GP about 14 years ago - under local anaesthetic  - he stitched it with the tiniest stitches and 3 months later you would never have known anything had happened there.

About 2 years later I had another removed from my cheek - this time he decided to caterize it and it left me with a scar. So I'd say as long as they stitch it and don't burn it you might be OK.

Oh - and I tend to form scar / keloid tissue from any injury.

No he has not done a biopsy just looked at it and said it is a bcc my GP said about 8 weeks ago she did not think it was a bcc she thought it a skin truma and even if it was a bcc they grow slow so just don't pick it and give it 6 weeks.

When I went back and it was still there she said she did not know what it was and it was not showing her any clues so told me to go to a specialist.

Only doctor I ever use is doctor google but he can't help me with this one.

Margo, when the GP removed Mum's he didn't take enough so she was referred to the eye Specialist for hime to have a second go at it, which was done under local in his surgery.

See the specialist, let them whip it out. BCC typically do not need a large margin, unlike Melanomas.

Margo, you will be fine. The Princess didn't sook so you can do it, she was most impressed showing off her black eye to all the oldies in the home. Margo we are up at Coffs Harbour for a week, just having some R & R before we confront the next installment.

Don't like the sound of any of that.  I would insist on a biopsy.  A good dermatologist can usually diagnose on sight but will always do a biopsy for a definite diagnosis.  If it was me, I wouldn't wait any number of weeks.  There are different types, and a biopsy will tell whether it has roots which go deeper.

polksalad my doctor said there was no need for a biopsy because he was going to send the whole thing to pathology after it was removed.

It was a large one my forhead and after about 2 or 3 months you couldn't tell where it had been removed. It was a type skin cancer which the doctor then had a good look and I have it everywhere on my body that has been exposed to sunlight. I put a cream on my spots for about 3 weeks and then move onto another patch and so I always have a patch of blisters from the cream.

The good thing is that it would appear I didn't get the hand me down family gene for melanoma and my type of skin cancer will not kill me.
