What do you expect from an economist? Common sense?

I have given up expecting common sense.

A small amount of decency would be nice

This text โ€œThe Death of Common Senseโ€ was sent to me and I thought I would share with you.
There is a message behind the story which I feel is so true.
What has happened to the world?
What has happened to common sense?

There is a lot of vocabulary here so if there is anything you have problems understanding, let us know in the comments.

The Death of Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
Why the early bird gets the worm;
Life isnโ€™t always fair,
and maybe it was my fault.

Common sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (donโ€™t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults are in charge not children).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of an 8 year old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common sense took a beating when you couldnโ€™t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common sense finally gave up the will to live, after a women failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common sense was preceded in death, by
His parents, truth and trust
His wife, discretion
His daughter, Responsibility
His son, reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers
I know my rights
I want my rights
I want it now
Iโ€™m a victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone

It's like boiling a frog isn't it?

The more wer'e asked to accept, the more we will accept.

So many things we wouldn't have dreamed of a cpl of generations ago are now not only commonplace but hotly defended if concerns are voiced.

Icy, it isn't acceptance necessarily, but resignation.

In my opinion, I think that woman should not be permitted to teach at all, tertiary or otherwise.  .  She clearly has no comprehension regarding the subject, and if she had even the most remote empathy for the victims of paedophiles (which I doubt) she would avail herself of a genuine education and somehow, synchronise her brain with her mouth!

I would not be surprised if she has been taken out of context. If you read the article she raises some valid points.

She isn't advocating that people who pose a risk should be allowed to adopt but that each case should be judged on it's merits. The examples she gave are not so serious that they should be automatically excluded for life.

โ€œRather than presuming that everyone is a potential risk to children and must therefore be vetted, any vetting or barring should be based on very strong evidence that they are a risk,โ€ the academic said.

Thats how I read it too. But we can't let that in the way of a good lynching, can we?
