It's incredible to watch how the rifts are opening and splitting that part of the Big Island apart. It's possible that side of the island could slide into the sea, what a giant tsunami that could generate ...
I really feel for those folks who have lost their homes. On the other hand, I'm not sure I would live so close to a live volcano either, no matter how 'slowly' it lives its life, which of course, is not so slow now.
There are other volcanoes on the Big Island, (which really isn't that 'big'), and while they may be quiet at the moment, it may not always be that way.
Buying a house there really does give new meaning to 'hot property'.
