He wont talk

My 2.5 year old wont talk.

He says Mum and Dad and thats it.

Hes not deaf. I know that because he hears and understands everything we say.

Next week we have an appointment at Child Development Clinic.

Anyone else have this issue with their little ones?

my miss was like that until she was 3 then it was totally the opposite, couldn't stop her from talking. lol.

also does the siblings speak for him?

as that will make him not want to talk when he has others speaking for him.

My son used to write his letters backwards until he was about 10 years old! Turned out he was a genius with an extreme IQ.

Don't worry. Of course have your son checked but also look up Crystal children:

  1. We do not begin to speak until 3 or 4 years of age.  We do not need to.  We only speak because YOU need us to speak.  When we do decide to talk, we will usually need speech therapy as physical words are foreign to us.

the older siblings try to encourage him to talk.

He stands in front of us and makes a noise that he must think is talking.

I try to get him to say a simple word, like ball, and what he says is not ever close to ball

Miss R was a late talker, turned out to be glue ear, when I told my GP that she wasn't talking he asked did I realise how many geniuses including Edison and Einstein didn't speak until they were 4. I don't know if this is true because google wasn't around 23 years ago but it made me feel better at the time.

It's a build up of fluid behind the eardrum that normally drains away, in some people, mostly kids it thickens and can't drain so they place a grommet in the ear drum. You may find your son has this problem, the kids can hear but everything sounds like it would underwater. Most kids grow out of the problem, something about the lineup of the jaw in puberty.
