After being away several months, I notice many of the same faces are still spending all day posting, despite their assurances that they work. One even spent a whole day waiting until 5.30 pm before posting just to prove she is employed!!! (only people unemployed or on benefits for years would assume the average work day is still from Nine-to-Five LOL!)
My question is, how do you afford to be here so much? Do you live off savings, an inheritance, divorce settlement, or do you simply chat from a library or a second hand notebook on limited internet usage?
To get a decent computer costs at least $2000 and without good internet connection, chatting on a forum isn't even worth it, so are these regulars going into debt over the boards? Would a bank even loan or credit them enough to supplement their activites and time usage here?
It's all very puzzling...

I dont want to argue with anyone but 12 years ago my daughter had a laptop for school.
Her whole class did, and it was carted back and forth each day and used at home.
I think the choices were Toshiba and Acer. We went the Acer and it cost over $4000 at the time.

"Misconceptions
The VGA rating refers only to size and not to clarity. A 640-by-480 pixel image is about the equivalent of a 0.3 megapixel image. The issues of distortion and clarity loss only occur when the image is either enlarged beyond its original parameters for printing or is viewed on a screen that uses a larger resolution."
If all you do is drive around locally and visit the local shops, how does owning a Maserati help, especially if you have no idea how to get it out of first gear.?
That I think,as I mentioned before, is why some want a FTTH NBN because they do not fully understand the technology involved, and what they actually need. What hardware (software even) specification improvements would you need FN from your "moving with the times" Internet access hardware over and above the previously mentioned specifications for my $130 IBM Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop?nษฅยบษพ
Who's talking about cars? I would not want a Maserati to drive to the local shops. I'm quite happy with my small 4 cylinder for which ever type of driving I do. It's great for travelling between Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. But it's a car not a computer. I take various computer and camera devices with me on my travels though the car makes no difference to those.
There is no way I would be able to use the old IBM DOS desktop or early windows model for what I use these days. Each new camera has better resolution and uses more processing power and bandwidth for starters. I like clarity, high resolution and printable images with a decent size LCD screen.
BTW, the GPON NBN is more like comparing a new ford with an old Ford. Would you buy a 30 year old one that you had to spend money on all the time or a new one that uses less fuel? I'd go the new if I was after efficiency, the old if it was a collectable and I was into collectable cars.

I don't care who has what but I do object to people telling me I don't know my own needs and that I should settle for old relics and a dodgy internet service that costs a fortune to use :D:D

A3 apple laptops do come with large screens. I'm not sure what they're called, but I have a graphic designer friend who owns one.
I know they do and they cost a lot more than $1800, which is what they claim they paid for their laptop with an ENORMOUS screen.

Thanks. That is ultra expensive? The average family would be more likely to have a desktop computer which would be 1/2 that price then.

LOL am*3, jealous that I snared a bargain? And you didn't know laptops came with larger screens and you stated emphatically that they only made laptops with larger screens 10-12 years ago ๐

Nope, never mentioned that at all. As for the rest of your claims (no details, no pics) about as likely as finding a large bag of old paper notes in the woods.
