How can you afford it?

After being away several months, I notice many of the same faces are still spending all day posting, despite their assurances that they work. One even spent a whole day waiting until 5.30 pm before posting just to prove she is employed!!! (only people unemployed or on benefits for years would assume the average work day is still from Nine-to-Five LOL!)

My question is, how do you afford to be here so much? Do you live off savings, an inheritance, divorce settlement, or do you simply chat from a library or a second hand notebook on limited internet usage?

To get a decent computer costs at least $2000 and without good internet connection, chatting on a forum isn't even worth it, so are these regulars going into debt over the boards? Would a bank even loan or credit them enough to supplement their activites and time usage here?

It's all very puzzling...

Wow sprinkles, it's thrilling when a member with your feedback score risking being made NARU and banned from ebay forums because somebody else has irritated you into a response ๐Ÿ™‚

You don't sleep in a metal box with hammers and wrenches, do you?

Wow,  Sprinkles, Bullseye!  More regenerations than D.r Who. Smiley LOL

How many LAPTOPS have larger than normal screens these days anyway?

I have had my laptop hard drive replaced under extended guarantee recently. It is nearly 3 yrs old.

LOL, as if laptops a decade ago looked like plasma screens! You seem preoccupied with "these days, those days." Ten years ago, a laptop was expensive because it was a laptop. These days, a laptop that costs $2000, (which isn't expensive anyhow) is a top grade, powerful, all the gadgets, bells and whistles with an enormous screen. Only somebody used to the worst, would want a tiny screen, and just because screens are becoming tinier, that doesn't mean they are better, only able to hold more memory in a smaller amount of space. It doesn't increase the enjoyment of a computer the way a bigger screen does. But as you have little experience with luxury items, you are simply following what's trending now and that shows a want of character. Not surprising, really.

George W. Bush, or some other inept human being

10 -12 years ago a desk top computer cost $2000+. People didn't generally own laptops for home use, they were too expensive.

Today you can get a very good laptop for  less than $900.

I don't believe laptops have 'extra large' screens either.

What a load of rubbish! Of course people owned laptops a decade ago for home use, but maybe not in your home or neighbourhood ๐Ÿ˜‰

You can get very good laptops for under $900 but my one is excellent. You wouldn't know about laptops with extra large screens for the same reason you don't know what Beluga caviar tastes like, the way a cashmere jacket feels or what Chanel No.5 smells like - and not the eau de toilette LOL!

am*3 they have really stuffed up a lot of the installations in my area and they are all being reinspected to try to work out how to deal with the mess over several suburbs.

Who's doing the installs?

Telstra or other contractors?

Just curious. I had no trouble with either of my connections. In Canberra we had a TransACT FTTP connection which was a good setup but the developer hadn't really made the most of the connectivity potential.

Did any posters here own a laptop for home use - 10 -12 years ago or did you only have a desktop computer?
