He has been offered and also court ordered Alcohol Counselling over the years some of it he has attended. This is the third incident this year and his has broken the terms of his contract.

well if thats it then so be it, if he were my work mate I would be arguing against him losing his job, I thought this was his first offence with his new employers - if it were my workplace it would be 3 written warnings for a similar type of offence for sacking. Unless it was stealing from them or something else illegal.

He sounds, in my opinion, as though he needs some serious psychiatric care and help.
It may be that he has a condition that requires diagnosing that has gone unchecked. His behaviours are that of someone who needs specialist medication to help him change his life around.
