I'm just curious as there seems to be a total fixation with just the leaders atm.
The poll boxes are too small so here are the options in full:
1. my local candidates, based on what he/she can do/has done in my community
2. the party I like best
3. the leader of the party, even though their name (probably) isn't be on my ballot paper?

My mistake I misread it...I agree with you, but on another level they're simply surviving poverty in a corrupt environment & while that environment exists, they'll keep doing it.
The answer is to take the issue to the World Stage while we have a seat on the UN and get some kind of strategy for relocation out of the camps worldwide to refugee taking countries. This wouldn't even have to be permanent, just until wars in their own countries were resolved and they could be repatriated. Many choose to return to their countries of origins, but in my view (which isn't to say it's the right view), it's more a humanitarian issue than a political one.
We have to stop arguing about it and treat it as a global issue, just like our so called economy is now global. Turning back boats isn't the answer, neither is the so called "Malaysia Solution". Crikey Cattle apparently have more rights than refugees being shipped offshore? *shakes head* Neither side have the answer if this is all they can come up with.

How do you choose who to vote for?
Close your eyes and stick a pin randomly in the ballot paper. That's about as close as you'll get given the choices presented.

That's about the size of it these days Icy....it's the 'game' I most object to because it doesn't matter what they promise, they never deliver and don't have to (See O'Farrelliars contract with NSW). He's broken so many promises already but there's no political integrity commission to enforce his BS contract is there? WE also can't force him back to an election. Then take the alternative = NSW Labor.....groan....= no alternative at all. If anything it's voters who end up between a 'rock & a hard place"
Gillard has suggested a Political Integrity Commission more than once but the LNP keep arguing that they are above all that. Not in my books they're not. All Pollies need to be held accountable, but none are. That's why we have such pathetic politics these days.
