...but boy I reckon I would have serious trouble finding 2 jobs to apply for EVERY day.
So how the heck is someone young, inexperienced, poorly educated, mildly intellectually incapacitated, ill, busy with family committments, old, dispirited, depressed, demotivated - need i go on? - going to maintain 2 applications day after day after day after day?
Seriously unrealistic and unfair.

The idea of income management for those on welfare has been something Abbott and his gang have been trying to introduce for some time. There are news reports as far back as 2010 and probably further back if you look. I think irrespective of who is in power it is something that will come into fruition into the future unless the public rise up and protest.
Keep lobbying, keep giving them your opinions, its the only way to fight these kinds of measures and hold them off for as long as possible. This policy and the unemployment policy will only serve to dis-empower people further. It takes away freedom of choice and takes away the persons ability to make informed choices. Crazy if you ask me.

that is a total madness, not to mention what it would cost to administer. Everybody has different needs, it is not up to the government to tell people ho to spend their money.

I smell something like an Australian cash crisis.........
Food stamps?
Voucher system to replace cash??......
there's something else going on here and it would not be to assist those on welfare.
Another Abbitsmissing Agenda IMO

I couldn't agree more super but it seems we are headed in that direction. There is already quarantining of certain payments in some areas and its lead to disempowerment esp among the Aboriginal Communities. Some argue that there is a level of sucess with it but most say all its done is dis empower the people further.
I agree with managing the income stream of those who are vulnerable (ie where child abuse or addiction is occurring) as DHS already do. But to make it a blanket policy, is mad. It takes away the right to purchase items and ability to make decisions about what you want and your life.
While the government has ruled out quarantining look at this

what exactly is the Red Herring? the 40 applications or the "income management"?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/01/tony-abbott-doesnt-rule-out-expanding-income-management
Tony Abbott 'doesn't rule out' expanding income management
But prime minister stops short of endorsing mining magnate Andrew Forrest’s far-reaching welfare proposal
“So while we are not currently planning the breadth of expansion that Andrew is recommending, I certainly don’t rule out wider quarantining in the months and years ahead.”

ref. red herring
Would guess that it's in reference to putting up requirement for job seekers to make application for 40 jobs from 20 a month.
Yes. I have been thinking same since seeing how quickly Abetz is prepared to backdown.
