Our region has it's new unemployment rate and it is 9.9%.....  not looking good for us right now.

I also live in an area with a high unemployment rate. No poliical party ever seems to have any concrete plans on how they are going to address this issue, increase jobs etc, even though they might say they intend to do this.

Luxury, we dream of 'aving unemployment rate as low as that....our's is so 'igh, people are getting boats ready to sail to China as economic refugees...LOOOOOOOOOOOOXURY I tell ya...our unemployment rate is 16.5% and rising.

@@cherry*135  The NBN is a dud just Like Rudd. It will be over taken buy wireless for the average user buy the time its all implemented. Anyone with just a small insight to the future in electronics can see that.  Cable is yesterdays hero.  And wireless was invented buy an Aussie.Smiley Happy

OH and a tip, in all this time its only in 200,000 properties out of more than 23,000,000 it needs to be in. Then theres the COST.

I wouldnt be waving and shouting about that one to much if at all.

Shows how much you don't understand about the NBN and the technology.

Wireless will never outdo fibre, it a complement not a competitor.

The NBN is not the old cable hybrid.

Which wireless do you refer to as being invented by an Aussie?

Wifi? The CSIRO are always looking at ways to improve and upgrade wireless capability but they never claim it will do away with the need for fibre.

What cost do you rfer to?

Cost to consumers is brilliant. Cost to the country will be recouped just as the cost of building the PMG/Telecom/Telstra network was.

Considering it started less than 4 years ago and had to be built from the design stage up, had massive change of plans with the Telstra agreement, it's doing well to be where it's at. It's 3 months behind schedule and not over budget. So why not shout and wave about how good it is. It alone is worth voting for, in my opinion.  It will be a game changer for many, particularly rural and regional areas.

Sorry for veering off topic Cat, I will butt out of your thread now.

I live in a place where telltale wireless is the only alternative and it SUX big time. No other provider can even give us wireless, so we can't get a better deal nor can anyone else provide adsl...

BRING ON THE NBN.  In some places there is no choice at all and wireless is slower and more unreliable than dial up as well as ten times more expensive particularly with telltale...talk about backwards.  I don't care who delivers it but this country NEEDS an NBN.  People in cities don't experience the complete black hole that rural folk do, so they really just don't know how bad it actually is.   We're still back in the 20th century but since Tony is trying to get us back to the '50's I guess that's gonna be ok for him and we'll be back to telex machine in due time.

I seriously wonder if he's ever tried to get online outside a city?  obviously not.

I agree with you cue.. about the need for a service like the NBN especially in regional areas. Currently not much choice for broadband and plans are very, very expensive compared to city areas.

LOL at telex machine... used to have those where I worked. How did they work? Dial up the local exchange of the person you wanted to send the msg too and type out the msg to them and the exchange passed it on to the person somehow?

I remember when fax machines were first used too.

am*3   the 200,000 connections to the 23,000,000 it is intended for are the GOVERNMENTS own figures publicized last night on 3 different stations on several shows.   Not my figures.

And if you think about it there is at least that many.  How many phone lines in a gov building alone. Internet connections computer stations. Networks? . Now times that buy the thousands and thats not even the home networks.
