I was treated like a criminal at BP

I went to BP about 30mins ago to fill my tank. I grabbed the pump to fill up and a voice came over the loud speaker saying "PREPAID ONLY".  They refused to allow me to fill up so had to go inside to prepay an amount of $80 without knowing how much I needed whether it was higher or lower. It turned out the pump stopped at $80 as the operator pre-programmed that exact amount. I have been buying fuel at this particular place for 12 years. They wont see me again!

My number plates were clearly displayed - the vehicle was washed yesterday.  The CCTV footage would be so clear that local police and crimestoppers would have had a field day if I drove off.

Some cars have stolen number plates on them, so that isn't a fool-proof method of catching people who steal petrol.

if you were the only customer they required to pay upfront then yes, it woud be reasonabe to say they are assuming you are a theif.

are you the only customer they have this policy for or are you being treated the same way every other customer there is treated?

this realy is not a case of discrimmination, nor is it a catastrophe!

I don't know pepe maybe because I'm a big man i'm 6 foot 2 and have a crewcut number 2# on the clippers.Maybe I look like a criminal.

This thread reminds me of the 'bag check' on exit from stores thread. Where a minority of posters felt like they were bring treated like thieves if asked to show their bags on exit and objected and the majority accepted it as a store security measure and where happly to comply if asked.

Lets face it, there are people out there thieving everyday - shoplifting, stealing petrol, stealing stuff from building sites, breaking into cars and stealing stuff out of them, etc. The retailers are taking measures to counteract this.. Lowering losses through theft, means less increase in prices to compensate.

The baddies ruin it for it for us goodies, thats how it rolls.

Since the plastic bags went I sometimes take a bag to the shop/supermarket, fill it up as I walk around and empty it at the checkout to pay.  I certainly hope they don't take my pic stuffing goodies in my bag and assume I'm stealing them.  😄

I can't see an issue with it.

Generally service stations around us all have the night window except the 7-11.

why should you be treated differently to anyone else?

They dont know if you are a crim

they dont know if the car is stolen

They dont know if your plates are stolen

So they have the prepay policy for everyone over night. Really, what difference does it make to your life?

Smiley LOL

It never ceases to amaze me when people get indignant because they think they are so special that the usual rules don't apply to them.

Either go during the day when they don't need security or go elsewhere.

Either way, get over it. It's not directed at YOU. Try and see if from their point of view - a business to protect and employees to keep safe. It's no biggy.
