FORMER NSW Labor powerbrokers Eddie Obeid and Joe Tripodi has been found to be corrupt over the nondisclosure of the ownership of cafes at Circular Quay and attempts to renew the leases without a tender.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption found that Mr Obeid misused his position as a member of parliament to lobby ministers and public servants on several occasions over the leases for the cafes, which he and his family secretly owned. It recommended that the Director of Public Prosecutions consider charges of misconduct in public office against him.
ICAC: Statement on findings of corrupt conduct
ICAC also recommended the DPP consider charges of misconduct in public office over these actions as well.
Mr Obeid was found to be corrupt last year over the allocation of a coal licence over his family farm, which resulted in a $30 million windfall in his family. He is yet to face any criminal charges.

I think everybody would think it was corrupt to do that, regardless of who they are.
Nice to see more attention being paid to everyone who has done the wrong thing.

Joe Tripodi corruption finding brings more joy to Labor than Liberals
Conversely, the Liberal Party is being extremely subdued about the finding.
Asked to comment on the corruption finding against Tripodi, Premier Mike Baird responded that it "just shows again that ICAC is doing its job".
Clearly, this is because the ICAC is also doing its job on Baird's own party at the moment.
In December - only months before the 2015 state election - the commission will deliver its verdict on former Liberal ministers Chris Hartcher and Mike Gallacher and others in relation to alleged rorting of the political donations system.
Meanwhile, the ICAC is digging deep into allegations that the NSW Liberals systematically gamed the election funding system before the election that delivered them government.

Labor CORRUPT to the core
ICAC: Former NSW ministers Eddie Obeid and Ian Macdonald to be prosecuted after corruption findings
Former New South Wales Labor ministers Eddie Obeid and Ian Macdonald have been ordered to appear in court after prosecutors decided to act on the findings of the state's corruption watchdog.
Mr Obeid is being prosecuted for alleged misconduct in public office relating to restaurant leases at Circular Quay in Sydney.
Mr Macdonald is being prosecuted for two alleged offences of misconduct in public office over the awarding of a mining licence.
In June, Mr Obeid was found to have acted corruptly by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), which said he "misused his position as an MP" to lobby ministers and a senior public servant over the retail leases.
The commission heard Mr Obeid had a secret stake in cafes and restaurants in the area through his brother-in-law, and he failed to disclose the stake when he lobbied other Labor ministers not to put the leases to a competitive tender when they expired in 2005.
"A court attendance notice was served on Mr Obeid this afternoon, following advice received from the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions," ICAC said in a statement.
The court notice alleged Mr Obeid induced Stephen Dunn, a senior manager with the Maritime Authority of NSW, to "deal favourably" with Circular Quay Restaurants' tenancies.
